Every time I look at ARMS, I can't help but think of the next Splatoon, and I mean that in a sense of a successor, not the fact that Splatoon 2 is on the horizon. The world is colorful and strangely developed in terms of context and world building. Nintendo went out of their way to explain why people have stretchy arms, sort of. Because aliens.
But every time I see gameplay, I think of how much I want to desperately want to try it out. Sure, maybe it's not a full stop, system seller title, but Nintendo is promising a steady stream of additional content, in this post-Wii U Splatoon world. And man, do the character look fun.
Ribbon Girl looks like a big favorite and Ninjara is climbing the ranks for pure strength of character tiers. But there's also the goofy Helix, mad mummy Master Mummy, double trouble Barq and Byte, chinese girlfriend Min Min, and of course the queen of thicc Twintelle. It also looks mechanically sound, with a classic rock/paper/scissors system in place with punches beating throws, throws beating guards, and guards stopping punchs. Add in dashes, supers, and character unique traits like double jumps, armor, assists, and teleporting, and you have yourself an intruging little fighter that Nintendo is pushing to inject more liquid hype into its fledgeling eSports scene.
So what do you think of ARMS? Do you have a main? A favorite? And how are your expectations for its post-launch window life? Leave a comment and we'll get a bunch of your thoughts onto the FP this weekend!
