Future of Esports, Fear ? Excitement ?

   0

Short answer - Possible but lets talk about it.

Is this going to be a bright future for us? Lets take a moment and think about it.

In order to think about this, we need to take a step back, back when games wasnt on the agendar and fun meant actually being creative with a plank of wood and some rubber bands. Games started out as a new way to entertain ourselves, isntead of watching TV we could boot up a Nintendo 64 and whack on some Goldeneye 64 and have an amazing night with polygon graphics. Years past and we develop more intense consoles such as Xbox and Playstation 2, which was the first major development to our current society, Halo, Uncharted, Rachet and Clank, Gears of War. All these classics emerged and the popularity of gaming became a force to reckoned with.

Years past, and we are now in the present. Console gaming has become one the major components of our lives, PC Gaming also has become the normal, is this because of our generation progressing at the same rate of technology, possibly?

However with this ESports has become a entertainment source for us gamers to go and watch, currently League of Legends and CS:GO and DOTA 2 are the major 3 contenders that can easily exceed 400k Viewing base while being live streamed via the main events like IEM Katowice, LCS Splits. Now comes the question, is this the pinnacle ? Have we already reached the top 3 games that are going to basically "run" the ESports scene ?

Imagine the future few more games develop and try to create an competitive scene, with these 3 current power houses will there be room for any more of the fan base to move over and watch new devleoped games, and this is where the future of ESports for me is worrying. Because alot of people like new things but they may not commit to a change of scene which can hinder the development of Esports.

Currently to my knowledge Halo, and Call of Duty are the only 2 games with competitive scenes via consoles but they do not exceed the amount of people watching the Top 3 Power houses on a weekly basis.

So here we are, give me your thoughts on this, don't get me wrong I am all for the future of ESports, and would love to see it progress into something amazing but only time will tell.
