Big surprise eh? Rabite wants Secret of Mana on 3DS. Stop the presses.
So after a little over a year Nintendo has announced SNES Virtual Console is a thing. In addition to the 9 already known and announced for the US, there's also a bunch of Capcom and Konami games announced for release in Japan. This got me thinking, "What do I want?" So like any typical person online I'll make a list. I might even remind you of some stuff, who knows? (I will be leaving off stuff that can't be added due to licensing bullshit or that never got released in the US thus untranslated).
First of all I want Secret of Mana. This should be no surprise. Ditto for me wanting Seiken Densetsu 3, but this one is a lot less likely. These two games are among my favorite on SNES and should be some of the first released by Squeenix.
Speaking of Squeenix, Soul Blazer. This game was kind of like Zelda with objectives that took you all over the place similar to Metroid. Amazing game and a great show of what the developers of the time could do.
Uniracers. Seriously. Why isn't this in the first batch?
Final Fantasy 4-6. I'd much prefer the GBA versions, but who knows when or if Nintendo will ever introduce GBA VC. So I'll have to settle for the lesser versions of these three classics.
Breath of Fire 1 and 2. Really great JRPGs from the olden days. Pity Capcom isn't doing anything with the series any more...
Gradius 3. It's not like Konami is doing anything with this series. Maybe they could use it to advertise one of their shitty pachinko machines or some shit.
Axelay, Cybernator, Sunset Riders, Sparkster. Konami's indifference strikes again.
Super Adventure Island 1 and 2, all the Bomberman games. *cries* I miss you Hudson.
E.V.O. This game was fucking amazing. It's an odd concept, but it was done beautifully.
Lufia 1 and 2. If you haven't played these, you'll be pleasantly surprised. These games are some of the best JRPGs on the system.
Demon's Crest. Ghosts and Goblins is already on the system. Super Ghosts and Goblins is coming (per Japanese release list on Nintendo's site). Genesis hasn't been mentioned (yet). Gargoyle's Quest 1 and 2 are on the system. And Ultimate Ghosts and Goblins... probably not. We can have damn near the whole series on one system! And what a game this is.
Robotrek. This was a very... odd game. Using combinations of weapons you set up skills. You make new weapons using raw materials you find in different ways. Very unique game that deserved a lot more love than it got back in the day.
Final Fight 3. Final Fight 1, 2 and Guy are all confirmed for JP release. Mighty Final Fight is already on the system. Final Fight 3 added in a Super meter and had some other fun improvements. Inferior to Streets of Rage 1-3 (of course), but still worth revisiting.
Illusion of Gaia. Globe trotting game involving the future of the world. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? How many times have you seen a flute get used as a weapon though? Not a tool. Not a instrument for summoning a flying chicken. A weapon.
Anything with Kirby in the name. Really says it all.
Lost Vikings 1 & 2. Blizzard created series that's been mostly forgotten beyond a few cameos. It'd be nice to give them a chance to shine again.
NBA Jam. Maybe EA will let us finally have the best basketball game ever released again. Not the schlock they released on XBLA/PSN.
Pocky and Rocky 1 & 2. A nice vertical Shmup with a raccoon.
Revolution X. HA HA HA HA HA just kidding, nobody wants this shit.
Rock N' Roll Racing. Oh god I'd take this over Mario Kart any day.
Super Ninja Boys. Side scrolling battles. Overworld that resembles FF4 graphics. VERY Japanese flavor. Not the best game ever, but quite fun.
Super Mario RPG and Chrono Trigger. It'd be nice, but knowing the parties involved who knows if it'll happen.
Super Punch Out. We got screwed out of Mike Tyson's Punch Out. We can't get the Wii version. But we can hope for this one.
Super Turrican 1 & 2. Fun Contra-likes. Based on a series from Europe these games were quite fun and had tons of exploration compared to the straight forward Contra series.
Ys III. Not the best game in the series, but still fun.
Zombies Ate My Neighbors. Very 90s take on the zombie genre before it really became a genre.
Join me next time when I'll bitch about all the games that SHOULD be on 3DS via BC already. Also I might complain about how horrible Nintendo's release patterns.
