Top 10 Gaming Soundtracks.

One of the fondest memories I have had with gaming since I started, were the music or soundtrack in games. They have always made my adventures more exiting and thrilling and have accompanied me though hard and good times. This sense of being captivated into a game world because of its soundtrack has always fascinated me and is something I always look forward to in every new game I play.

Therefore, I would like to share my Top 10 game soundtracks. There is simply way too many games with great soundtracks, so I will be looking into games that really impacted me the most.

So let's begin:-

10- The Neverhood

This old gem was completely different from your average adventure and so was its music. The game's music is quite unique as it's got a funky rhythmic tone to it with indistinct vocals that just blends right in with the games crazy theme and atmosphere.
My favorite track from the game is the 'Klaymen's Theme', it's got a real funky tone to it that just makes you tap your feet whenever you hear it.

9- Streets of Rage 2

Streets of Rage 2 was one of the best beat 'em up games on the Genisis, it had a very memorable soundtrack that fit right into the games design and had really pushed the audio capabilities of the Genesis. Most of the tracks in game are chiptune- based that encompasses genres such as trance, house and techno. All of these tracks enhanced your experience as you battle your way through waves of thugs and the upbeat music just keeps you in that fighting groove.

All the tracks in this game are amazing and would recommend you to check it out, but my favorite ones are the 'Select Character' and 'Ready Funk'. These two tracks have been stuck in my head ever since.

8- Diablo II

Diablo II had the perfect soundtrack for the kind of game it was. All the tracks compliment the games atmosphere with very creepy yet fitting music, as you travel through various environments in the game. But the 'Tristram' track is by far one of the best from the whole game. This single track expresses the grim world of Sanctuary, as you wander through the wilderness fighting through hoards of demonic beasts and creature.

This track used to bring the fear out of me while playing as a kid, but those were the moments that made me fall in love with this track and game.

7- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

Castlevania: SOTN was one hell of an action RPG for the Playstation and for a game released in 1997 it sure did have one of the best soundtracks in gaming. The game possessed wonderful compositions that blended various styles of music that drew you in to the haunting castle of Dracula.

My favorite track from the game is 'Dracula's Castle'. When I heard this track for the very first time after entering the castle I was blown away by it. Playing as Alucard was badass on its own, but starting your adventure with that theme just made it sweeter.

6- The Sims 2

I have spend countless hours playing this game and have enjoyed every bit of it, more so with its soundtrack. As most of the characters in game communicate in Simlish, the radio stations have adapted this into their licensed tracks that just blends in with the theme of the game very well and makes it quite entertaining and enjoyable to listen. The station I loved listening to while playing were- College Rock, Reggae, RnB and Jam Bands. Aside from all the radio tracks the games theme music were absolutely fantastic and there are tons of them from the games various expansions. My personal favorite is the original Sims 2 Create- A-Sim theme. I always get a nostalgic rush whenever I listen to it.

5- Final Fantasy IX

This was my favorite title from the other Final Fantasy games on the PlayStation, as the game chose to go back to its roots with traditional setting and gameplay. Not only did I enjoy that change but the soundtrack was also quite pleasing. It's got a massive list of tracks similar to Chrono Cross with a huge verity of different tunes that blend with the games world and setting quite well. The games music definitely did impact the games presentation to portray the fantasy world of Gaia.

Some of the tracks I really enjoyed in this game were, 'The place I'II retune to someday', 'Vivi's Theme', 'Ukele le Chocobo' and 'Vamo' alla Flamenco'. Man I really enjoyed 'Vamo' alla Flamenco', I would frequently play the chocobo Hot and Cold mini game just to hear that track.

4- Chrono Trigger

The strongest feature of Chrono Trigger's soundtrack were that most of its tracks were very memorable because of the scenes within the game. Every track reflected upon the adventure Chrono and his friends embarked upon. Giving the soundtrack a very good bond with the player and the game. One of my favorite scene in the game was frogs story, when you bring him the masamune and his theme song starts playing in the background was definitely one of my favorite moments and theme in the game. Aside from that there are many other tracks I really enjoyed, but my favorite from all has to be 'Secret of the Forest'.

3- Chrono Cross

A great JRPG with an absolutely stunning soundtrack. There was a lot of expectation behind this game after the success of Chrono Trigger and it certainly does live up to those expectations. It's got a massive list of tracks, I mean it's really massive taking up to three hours of pure melody sweetness. Every composition in game ranges from various emotions and are unique and distinct from each other, with superb instrumental quality. Making it an absolute pleasure to listen to even if you are not playing.

All the tracks in Chrono Cross were beautifully composed and these were the tracks that stood out the most for me, 'Home Village Arni', 'Times Grasslands- Home World' and 'Dream of the Shore Bordering Another World'. Definitely an OST you should check out if you are interested in game soundtracks.

2-Vampire: The Masquerade- Bloodlines

The music in this game was everything it should have been to draw you into the dark and gritty world of vampires. The game has a very atmospheric environment with excellent ambient music in the background, which I really enjoyed . Most of these tracks are played softly in the background as you wander through the streets at night which really immerses you to the games world. The game features some of the best city themes, that compliments the games atmospheric environment.

I really enjoyed the 'Santa Monica', 'Hollywood' and 'Chinatown' themes but it's the 'Santa Monica beach theme' that has got me hooked. I frequently visit that location just to listen to that track and the dark rainy atmosphere just makes it even better.

1- Silent Hill 2

Silent Hill 2 is a masterpiece when it comes to creating an ambient and atmospheric game and it does not fall short on the music department either, as it is one of its strongest points. Most of the tracks in game are dark and moody that represents the twisted and surreal town of Silent Hill.

Though you may not know what awaits you deep inside the foggy town of Silent Hill, the soundtrack is also presented in the same way as it is a mix bag of every emotion. My favorite tracks from the game are 'Theme of Laura', 'Forest', 'Promise' and 'The Reverse Will'. This is something you should listen yourself to appreciate its greatness.

Well these are my favorite soundtracks in gaming. Feel free to share yours.
