This is my GAME store...sorry, was *sniffle*
Yes. Saturday was a sad day. My GAME retailer (biggest in UK) has shut it's doors for the last time. This is the place where I have bought at least 95% of my games throughout my entire, short life. I mean literally, it goes back as far as I remember, and it's now gone forever.
This is the place where I bought games. This is where my gaming habit was allowed to evolve, providing I put up the blood money. GAME has been there to provide one of the few respites to my (at least, at the moment) miserable life. The amount of money I must have spent (or rather, my parents spent) and further more, the amount of time I spent looking at games I wished to own, must be staggering.
I bought my GameBoyAdvance, my DS, my PSP, my PC, and even a few XBOX360 games there. I have literally had games from there all my life. My mum, on christmas, used to take me there and buy my two GBA games I wanted, and I would just sit in the store, overwhelmed by all the choice.
It was due to this store, that I created possibly the biggest collection of PSP games ever. I mean, I had stacks and stacks of games, and it was thanks to this store.
But more importantly, this store provided me with my gaming moments. It provided me with all the joy (well almost all, Steam and CEX had some of it aswell) of the videogame industry. My memories of all my games, Pokemon Ruby, Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle 3 (yeah, it's GBC, but someone gave it to me when trading them in), Nintendogs, Super Mario 64, Mario Kart Super Circuit, Advance Wars, GTA LCS/VCS, Pursuit Force seriously, I could go on. I mean, I could write an entire blog post regarding the games I bought from that store.
And it's gone now. It's closed up shop, and it's shipping it's stock to some other store, a store I have no sentimental value with, it has no soul (at least to me.) Call me ridiculous, but that store is intrisincly linked to my life.
So no more visiting the shop to find good deals on great games (Mass Effect 1 for a £5, Mass Effect 2 for £10! I love you!). No more buying boxed copies of games, and rushing home eagerly to unwrap their cellophane casing. It's gonna be online delivery and digital distribution from now on I guess.
And so, I say goodbye to the kid who sat on the floor of the shop, wondering what GBA game to have for christmas, and I was always so happy to see it wrapped up, even though I knew what it was
So long old friend. It was fun while it lasted.
Time to get hyped up for new vidjogaems. DEFIANCE LOOKS AWESOME. GAMEGLOBE LOOKS AWESOME. ALIENS: COLONIAL MARINES LOOKS AWESOME. BIOSHOCK INFINITE LOOKS AWESOME. TRANSFORMERS :FOC LOOKS AWESOME.
That is all.
Seriously though, Defiance and Gameglobe looks incredible. I am so psyched for both of them.
Little Big Planet for PC. Sold. It's free? I will give you my soul.
And this? A MMO which actually links into a show, and their plots intertwine, and both affect each other? HOLY FUUUUUU-
