What's yours is mine; Unexpected Covers (NVGR)

Clown Baby, back again with some more Music discussion!

This time around I'm bringing you a group of bands covering very unexpected songs, with amazing results! I didn't intend on making a second blog seemingly focused on electronic music, but it seems that covering Electronic and Hip-Hop is the most popular thing.

Let's kick things off with the song that inspired me to write this group.

Far - Pony (Ginuwine cover)

Bonus on this one, somebody dubbed the cover over the original music video and it works pretty good!
This came out sometime last year originally with the band listed as an alias. I can't remember the fake name they used, but everybody was shocked to find out it was Far!

Those of you who read my last blog, this song was included on there as a bonus song; I'm gonna go ahead and throw it here for completions sake (and for those who didn't see it); not much to say on this.

The Demonstration - Bad Romance (Lady GaGa)

(For those familiar with the band KillWhitneyDead, The Demonstration was the actual band that played their music on their latest releases. I'm not sure if this is still the case or not.)

The next song's a little bit older. FUN FACT: The band hates that they did this (and had a different singer than they do now.). They got a little grouchy when I saw people requesting it live.
FUN cover.
Throwdown - Baby Got Back (Sir Mix-A-Lot)

(As with the first, this one was also dubbed over the original video with hilarious results)

Things slow down a little bit now with an acoustic cover I ran across sometime last year. I'm not a fan of Kanye, but this is golden.

Rodeo - Amazing (Kanye West)

The next two I came across while looking up the other videos on YouTube and wasn't aware of them before, but they're pretty cool.

Return of Simple (?) - Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (Daft Punk)

(I assume this is the band name. It's the YouTube author's name, closest I could figure out)

Jason Yang & John Shcroeder - Around the World (Daft Punk)

The use of a loop for this and the different effects they use to achieve the pieces of the song is brilliant!

This one has a story, but let's take a look first.

The Dillinger Escape Plan - Come to Daddy (Aphex Twin) *Ft. Mike Patton on vocals*

After releasing their debut CD, "Calculating Infinity", DEP's original singer left the band. They released two instrumental songs while in search of a singer, but in the meantime they recorded an EP and did some shows with Mike Patton on vocals.
(For those interested, the EP is called "Irony is a Dead Scene")

The last one is a two-fer!

Weezer - Kids / Pokerface (MGMT / Lady GaGa)

I hadn't intended to have two Gaga songs on here, but Weezer insisted on being AWESOME, so this came to fruition.

I can't believe I forgot about this.

Evergreen Terrace - Mad World (Tears for Fears)

This band LOVES to do cover songs. So much so that this is off of a Cover CD. Other bands they've done include U2 (Sunday Bloody Sunday), The Offspring (Kids Aren't Alright), Hum (Stars), Smashing Pumpkins (Zero), and many more. This is just my favorite of the bunch.

That's all for today kids, take a listen and see if your favorite songs have been butchered, or if you have a new favorite version of them!

Let me know some of your favorite covers in the comments.

About Clown Babyone of us since 2:05 AM on 02.19.2007

When did you start playing games? I can honestly say my entire life. My dad used to let me play computer games on his desktop back when most households didn't even have a computer at all.

I play drums in a band called documentary. Music and Videogames together are two of the biggest parts of my life.

If you're interested you can hear my band here or even better, see it here!

My band is something of an experiment. We created the Myspace page for the sake of venues, but otherwise we do NOT use it at all. All of our shows are advertised via Word of Mouth and old school methods. The only online advertising is done by us on our personal Myspace/Facebook pages to our real-life friends.

So far, it's working fairly well.
