JOURNALISM News: Mark Bozon, formerly of IGN, joins the new EGM

Yes, it's a bit old that Mark Bozon, the lovable little dude to Matt Casamassina's stuck-up-ness on IGN's Nintendo channel, has left the video game juggernaut after not wanting to really make a move to the new consolidated San Francisco offices. Kind of like the opposite of what Niero did. Of the Nintendo crew back when I was on IGN and IGN alone, he was always the one I liked the best. And truthuflly, I have not been to IGN or my old IGN blog in probably almost a year, because ... well, the site's gone downhill.

But better days are ahead for the brother of the guy who brought us Shantae and A Boy and His Blob Wii. Mark's been recruited by the brand-new EGM and will, I'm guessing, be taking up a big brunt of their Nintendo coverage, except WayForward's stuff, for obvious reasons. He joins Dan "Shoe" Hsu and Demian Linn of Bitmob, Ryan O'Donnell and Matt Chandronai from Area5, John Keefer (recently of Crispy Gamer), Brady Fiechter (former EIC of Play Magazine), which is a very solid line-up so far. He's also got a new Twitter page set-up, so if you're a follower like I was, be sure to switch on over, since his old IGN one is now done.

My thoughts on it? Well, it's a plus for EGM, and somewhat of a loss for IGN, but I can't really judge it too much because, like I said, I don't go to IGN much anymore. And it might be good for Bozon, who should be able to flex his creative muscles (or huge fat stores?) at EGM. Sometimes, it takes making a switch to go from being OK to totally awesome (see: Jeff Gerstmann circa GameSpot vs. Jeff Gerstmann circa Giant Bomb). I'll be interested to see how Bozon writes now, as he'd garnered a bit of controversy at IGN among Wii fans for some of his reviews and comments (then again, those people simultaneously love and hate Casamassina), which perhaps seemed tailored more towards IGN's general groupthink of "Wii = bad" than anything else.

Also, it means I really need to polish up my resume a bit and get back into this blogging thing. I'll never get a job writing about vidja games on two posts a month. :p
