European VC & WiiWare U pdate: Hanabi World 3-2 Edition

   0
So this week is traditionally WiiWare week, however with the Hanabi Festival on I was wondering how we'd get it. Will Virtual Console still wait a week? Will we get Japanese WiiWare games?

Neither as it happens, we have both domestic WiiWare and Hanabi VC. Lets have a look shall we.

Virtual Console Game 1 - Dig Dug
NES - 600 Points

Hard to believe, but the NES version of Dig Dug was never released outside Japan. Sounds odd doesn't it. As for the game, well its Dig Dug, you move around an underground cave inflating enemies until they burst, what's not to get? Or like for that matter because Dig Dug is brilliant.

Virtual Console Game 2 - Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa
NES - 600 Points

Now here's a game that's 100% Japanese. A baby who uses a rattle to inflate enemies who can then be used as platforms or to kill other enemies. Its actually a very decent little platformer, and if you want to see something that might have inspired Klonoa about 10 years later its something well worth picking up.

WiiWare Game 1 - Critter Round Up
Konami - 1,000 Points

Here's something I don't know much about. The name suggests a piece of crappy WiishovelWare, but its published by Konami and the Wikipedia page likens it to Qix. When you're game is likened to Qix, I find it hard to believe you're doing something wrong.

WiiWare Game 2 - Maboshi: The 3 Shape Arcade
Nintendo - 800 Points
Its hard not to think of the Bishi Bashi games here. It seems like its a game built very much in the same mould as those games and that can only be applauded. The idea is that 3 games are on screen at the same time, and what happens in one game can have an effect on the others. I think its well worth the asking price given that it appears to be a WiiWare game that's had effort put into it, I really don't like that I have to say that believe me.

Not a bad week by any means, but certainly nothing to shout about like last week.
