The art style deliberately apes Pokemon's and some of the monster designs look like really bad rejected designs of actual Pokemon. This will not end well for Zynga. I don't think they can handle a war from two sides.
thats why EA trying to kill them is a good thing, not because EA is good as its not by any means but at least its attacking some other evil resulting in less evil, regardless of who is the bigger evil.
Actually, this looks more like a clone from a DIFFERENT monster catching game on iOS. I can't remember the name, but you collect cards with monsters in them, and then you have a monster walk down a path and find chests along the path with other monster cards in them. To evolve a monster, you take two of the same cards and combine them.

So it's Pokemon but the gameplay is super shitty, I can only play a tiny amount at a time unless I pay them, and everything looks completely unoriginal and uninspired, making it lack everything that makes Pokemon great? Good job Zynga. Good job...
Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. In fact, I hope this finds huge success. Maybe then Nintendo will see that their games would do well on iOS. They already do, unofficially anyway.

The fat dragon's design is ripped straight from Dragon Quest. Akira Toriyama couldn't have drawn it better.
Imagine if Zynga released a game that is so complex, deep, and fun it makes everybody fall in love with it and becomes and instant classic.
The only happy note here is that Zynga have brazenly decided to copy a Nintendo-owned product. I have better faith in them taking legal recourse against Zynga than EA's woefully inept legal "team".
Zynga's not even pretending to try anymore. Thing is, I'd love a Pokemon ripoff that aspired to improve the core elements of the series that haven't significantly changed since Red/Blue. Give the battles more strategy, movement, and terrain concerns by giving player control of the selected beastie during fights, monsters that sound like monsters and not audio garble, in game hats/accessories visible outside of the currently-irrelevant fashion show, a Chao garden-type area where you can interact with collected dudes in a non-faint match manner, real time fights rather than standing on opposite sides of a field and exchanging musket shots. And put it online, so I guess it'd be Pocket Monster Hunter. I would play that game, and it might not suck. Ripoffs don't have to be a bad thing. Just Zynga ripoffs.
Was about to defend it as being along the same veins as Monster Rancher etc, but then I saw the Psyduck in the trailer.

Umm, hello? People have been ripping off Pokemon for well over a decade. A lot of the Pokemon designs are just animals. Pidgey, Rattata, and Psyduck are just a pigeon, rat, and platypus. I love Pokemon but Zynga's doubtful going to be sued for this if nobody else has been yet.

Not really a Pokemon rip off, just a rip off of monster training games in general that happens to look really bad in taste. I see Pokemon, Neopets, and Dragon Quest when I look at the monster designs really. Also there's the whole Shin Megami Tensei fusing thing going on there.

Sure, lots of people have been making poke-clones, but were any of them as big as Zynga? Nope. I run a very obscure tshirt company and I've gotten cease and desist emails from Pokemon for my various designs. I would be very concerned if I were Zynga.
