ZOMG!!! M.U.G.E.N.

     ZOMGBURRITO!!

Look I drink ...
... and from time to time this makes me a little late on trends in the world. M.U.G.E.N. is something that I have totally missed the bus on ... by eight full years. No, I am not talking about Honda's tuning division, I am talking about the game engine. Wikipedia describes it as such:
"M.U.G.E.N is a free 2D fighting game engine designed by Elecbyte, written in C with the Allegro library. The engine allows for anyone to create characters, background stages and other game objects through interpreted text files, graphics, and sound compilation."
Now, I may not have any idea what that means, but I want it bad. A special thanks goes out to JudgeSpear for giving us great video footage. Be sure to check out our previous coverage and find out just how dumb and out of the loop I am. Here, here, and here, over here, and man do I feel dumb.

I used to be into mugen. Hell, there's a metric-eff ton of characters to pick from, its completely customizable, blah blah blah. The problem I had is it just seems to stop working everyonce and a while.

Awesome...I would buy it...they just need to work on the backgrounds as that one did not fit at all.

My friend made a MUGEN game. If anyone wants to snag it, click here and then here. It's about 550 megs because we're dumb and don't know how to shrink it. Just extract all those files into a folder and run winmugen.exe. Oh, and we put our voices into it. You can play as me!

MUGEN is like crack. i think my character list is up to about 800, which makes selection really really difficult.

if you're interested in getting started, check out mugen infantry.

then say goodbye to your loved ones.

Wow, I remember vaguely from way back, but never tried it out. I should probably correct that.

MUGEN is fun when you're adding characters to your roster, but once you actually play the game after the whole 'OMG IS THAT RYU VS KEN VS SOL BAD GUY VS GOKU VS PIKACHU VS GREEN POWER RANGER' stage you realize that it's not actually that fun to play due to imbalances in the game.

That chicken fight in the last five seconds made the whole thing worth it. Totally not expecting that.

I got real interested a while back, but I wanted to start from scratch and work my way up adding characters and stuff with just a basic little set.

Thing is, the moron who made the basic little set didn't include any instructions to anything other than adding characters, so the game screen is about about 1 inch big.

I really need to figure out how to get it full screen.

I remember MUGEN on Dtoid. I think it was the M Bison run on Super Mario world 1-1. God that was a long time ago.
