Zombies were discussed for Modern Warfare 2 photo

Looking to go unconventional with the narrative, the team behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s innards tossed around several fantastic ideas before settling on the series’ familiar and grounded reality. Aliens and zombies and outbreaks and viruses were considered as a threat at one point in the initial planning stages.

“Infinity Ward's Jason West, Steve Macuda, Todd Alderman, Mackey McCandlish and me would talk about the kinds of stories we could tell, and we didn't want to just make a straight sequel to Modern Warfare,” said Modern Warfare 2 scriptwriter Jesse Stein in a recent interview with GamePro. “We started kicking around anything and everything to weed out the bad ideas.

“In the beginning we talked about having things in Modern Warfare 2 like outbreaks, viruses, chemical warfare, and even outlandish things such as aliens and the living dead,” he said.

Stein said that after the team decided to do grounded events, they kept conjuring up situations or scenarios that had already happened in the real world. Fortunately, IW and Stein did find some stuff that hasn’t: without going into specifics, MW2 is filled with brilliant scenarios that, thankfully, haven’t happened to our knowledge.

Still, though, “No Russian” would have been awesome with zombies and ray guns.

Considering how batshit crazy the plot got, I'm more surprised that they weren't in the game. What a mess. An Awesome mess, but a mess nonetheless.

They're lying, Shepherd is Wesker in disguise, all the $hit he did can only mean he worked for Umbrella Corp.

They need to add a tower defense/horde mode to the game, zombie terrorists are a plus.

Zombies would make the game more believable.

Red Dawn is about as plausible as Dawn of the Dead, but I had an easier time suspending disbelief with the latter.

I loved the game, but some kind of horde mode would be appreciated.

But Activision have a whole fist in this pie, no doubt it will be released later as DLC.

IW probably already made it, put it on the discs and wanted it in there, but Kotick jumped on it and was like "whoa there don't go giving my extra money away free now guys!"

Horde mode DLC confirmed?

Were these the same guys that toyed around with the crazy and unrealistic idea of supporting dedicated servers before settling on a much better system in IWNet?

I would have rather have had a retarded storyline like zombie-aliens-unicorns, then the horror show of them trying to be poignant and powerful with a storyline that ended up being a 9/11 conspiracy theorist's wet fantasy.

Fuck zombies; that's Treyarch's gimmick to sell copies of their games. MW2 doesn't need a zombie mode.

"Aliens and zombies and outbreaks and viruses were considered as a threat at one point in the initial planning stages."

All of these are equally as plausible as what they eventually did come up with.

For the people clamoring for a horde mode, doesn't Spec Ops more or less satisfy that need?

Actually, no Russian with zombies would pretty much have been Dead Rising with guns.

It's not like zombies would make the plot any less comprehensible. They should have just taken the extra step and made some chaos happen. Maybe I would have had fun with the campaign.

Zombies are more plausible than half of the stuff that happens in that game.

WAW stole perks from Modern Warfare so i don't see why Modern Warfare can't have a zombie mode, i was so disappointed it didn't, i think i cried a little bit actually, obviously not as much as jono

If there was one of those fun zombie survival modes ala World at War, maybe this coaster would have some replay value.
