I'll give the beta a go and gague my opinion from that, hope it has the lack of handholding that DayZ has but at the same time, much easier to get running (DayZ can be a pain in the arse to get in, not into though)
I am a huge DayZ player. Have been since launch. That being said, I think this has enough to set itself apart plus benefits of being built by a good sized team from the ground up. I say bring on more zombie survival games. Real survival horror could use the boost. I remain cautious though because the RPG elements being added into the formula DayZ helped create. They could either be very good..or not so much.
I would just ask to please make sure the shooting aspects work well. Not the standard MMO fare that deals with my stick doing more dps than yours bullshit. Make headshots count, not depending on some stupid stat. The skills should just make you better at reloading, aiming, etc.. not how much damage you do with something. One thing i love about DayZ is that headshots and such really matter. There are plenty of ways to make zombies more dangerous than giving them more HP.
I have high hopes.. just don't screw this up.

would love this to be on console as well..shit there is like zero competition for these people on console why not dominate the market for that too
as @Barnes said, if this is releasing this fall, they would've had to work ridiculously hard to be able to copy shit from DayZ :-)
From what I understand Day Z isn't _really_ an MMORPG, it has permadeath for instance...

I'm down! Love the social aspects, but I want to know more about their death system. It'd be absolutely awesome if there were a zombiU system in place with permadeath. The social aspects for banding survivors to cooperate seems great, but I would hate for this to be a typical snore-fest mmorpg with leagues of players camped in 'safe zones' spamming some economic sales pitch over a chat channel.
A more robust and social DayZ sounds amazing, just so longas the focus remains on the killing of zombies and not grinding levels, stats, or trade skills.

People seem to forget how long it takes to make even a game prototype (see: A damned long time). The concept seems more predicated on The Walking Dead than anything, and there's no guarantee that there will be any great features in this one. In fact, it may suck, but I'll hold out hope on it. Would be interesting to have a game like this with real infrastructure.
Me too games? These are games that have needed to be created for a long time. The appeal is unaurprising. It's a zombie fan's wet dream revealed.

I've noticed these days that dtoid is just a delayed release version of ign, plus the inimitable sterling, which totally makes up for the copy pasta. Oh yeah the toid show makes this site worth it too.

Actually 'The War Z' has been on development for long, even before 'Day Z', when Day Z released they were happy because they will not be the one doing this kind of game and also that worked.

Not really. Im sure in the event of such a event man kind could, sooner or later, secure a city or town where it would be considered a "safe zone". I dont think its that hard to imagine. Hell im sure cities where there is a military presence, or for instance military bases.

DayZ sucks now so hopefully this can replace it...
