Last summer, artist Chris Furniss posted a piece of Samus art a day for a whole month, depicting ol' Sammy out of her armor and enjoying her day-to-day activities when she's not out patrolling the galaxy. It's a candid glimpse into the life of just an ordinary gal -- she surfs the Web, visits the laundromat, hangs out with friends, and enjoys the great outdoors. Very sweet indeed!
Since finishing "31 Days of Zero Suit Samus," Chris has wanted to gather all the days into a compilation book. Plans are finally underway, and he's even going to include some extra pieces. In addition, a few other web artists will be contributing to the book as well, such as the always jubilant Ashley Davis, Maré Odomo, Zac Gorman, and Ted Martens. They're showing a lot love for our favorite bounty hunter, even if some aren't following the "Zero Suit Samus" theme (for shame!).
In the gallery, I've posted the current contributions as well as a selection of Chris' originals. Hit up his site to check out the remainders.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

It's just TOO adorable!
Thanks for the post :)
He made the art with his own effort, he's entitled to it's profits. It's like making a giant painting of a Coca-Cola bottle. Yeah, someone owns the design, but someone else took the effort to make the painting.
It's art; art is protected.
He's not profiting from official illustrations. He's making original art based on an intellectual property which falls under fair use.
I'm pretty sure by now it's foolish to criticize anyone for making money off of fan works. If companies were as cutthroat as people seem to claim, we wouldn't have fan works period.
However, the good news for fan works is that the law can only be enacted by the copyright holder, and most large companies simply don't bother enforcing it on fanworks because it really doesn't divert profits, since they're not offering a competing product and, honestly, it probably generates more interest in their IP, so he's probably okay. But this is the reason why cease-and-desist orders can be delivered for fan games and other big products.
To be more clear: it's specifically the "for profit" part that makes it illegal. Fair use also covers fanart and the like if it's done entirely not-for-profit, which is how sites like Overclocked Remix can exist.
Not quiet.
Transformative works can be profited from legally. The key aspects of fair use is in how a derived work affects the original property's capacity for profit, and how much of the original work was used.
Simply profiting from something doesn't invalidate it's fair use of the property being referenced.
This work obviously doesn't use any of the original property's assets other than the likeness, and doesn't damage, diminish or negatively (keyword) affect the original property's capacity for profit in any way.
So no, not illegal. In fact, the legality of the action doesn't get defined until the owner of the property makes a claim on it.
I usually don't cite Wikipedia, but since most what I know about copyright law comes from my lawyer, it'll have to do for now
