Zelda: Skyward Sword in the 'finishing touches' phase photo

Looks like the next entry in the Legend of Zelda series is almost done, with Nintendo claiming that the "finishing touches" are being put on Skyward Sword

The news comes from a recent investment meeting, where the publisher revealed that Skyward Sword was in its final production phase, getting that last spit n' polish before completion. Looks like we're on track for a 2011 release, which is excellent.

The last we heard about the game, it was "over half done" which didn't sound like they were close to being done. As someone who is very much looking forward to Skyward Sword, this is great to hear. It's been too long since last I kicked Ganondorf's arse.

After hearing this news, I'll be much more disappointed when it's delayed.

The closer this game is to Wind Waker, the happier I will be. Regardless, I'm really looking forward to sinking my teeth into another Zelda! They're always a great time.

@Cryotek- The Wii is more powerful than the Gamecube (about twice as powerful). When Twilight Princess came out, Nintendo said it could look better if it was designed from the ground up for the Wii.

Between this and the new Kirby, looks like my Wii is going to have as much playtime as it did last year.

Twilight Princess didn't feel like a true Zelda game. It was too brown, brooding, and didn't break conventions.

Skyward Sword looks great, and they even have meaningful waggle with motion plus. I'm stoked.

It needs to be in the "in my console" phase.

I wish I could get more excited for this. TP was awesome...except for the wolf parts (imho). That was great in Okami, but when I play Link I want to play Link. The E3 presentation was extremely disappointing, but I hope this trounces TP in every way because that will mean I will be going back to the most wonderful land of Hyrule very soon indeed. :)

Remember that Nintendo spends at least 3 months after they are completed a game to put finishing touches on it.

Just launch it already and announce a brand new Zelda game for the 3DS on E3. Pretty please?

And heck no GC controller support. This would totally screw combat difficulty balancing. As much as I sometimes miss my good old button-only configuration, I must admit I have become a believer in motion sensing after playing Red Steel 2. Waggle can be averted by simply making your attacks inneffective, much like a man desperately swinging a sword would be.

It can be tiresome, yeah, but Zelda has a pretty nice balance beetween combat and puzzle solving. Besides, there's a huge variety of items to be using in order to dispose of enemies anyway.

This is the reason I'm getting a Wii Motion Plus. This is going to be excellent and even though I adore the traditional format of Zelda games, I'm looking forward to the "shaking up" promised by Nintendo.

This won't be out for awhile. Ocarina of Time is expected to be released before skyward sword, but that won't be til after E3.

The dream would be a summer release like Galaxy 2 saw last year, but I highly doubt it. You never know with Nintendo though; never expected to see Mario and Metroid in the middle of the year, then Donkey Kong, Kirby and Goldeneye to come out of nowhere for the winter schedule.

Nintendo, release this now and keep Pikmin 3 back for the holidays. That would be amazing!

Wasn't this game supposedly in development for as long as ocarina of time? I'm thinking not, because for some reason I can't bring myself to give a shit about this game (especially after watching the footage at the last E3). I'm going to buy it regardless though, so hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised (and hopefully they don't make it easy enough for 3 year olds)

I'm buying a Wii for this game and this game alone. Either that or Nintendo will officially announce their next console with Skyward Sword as their launch title and I'll buy that instead.

Game delays = better game quality, I love waiting for a game that is getting super polished, nothing wrong with that. exept waiting.

I might have to play through Twilight Princess again though.

About damn time. I'm beyond hyped for this game - I NEED new Zelda in my life. But I really hope they've sorted out the cardboard trees they had in the demo. Other than that, I'm a big fan of the art style.

@Davoidbot

That'd be sweet, but I'm pretty sure Link can run now going off some of the video clips from E3, so I wouldn't bet on it.

*drools* This is still my most anticipated game of the year so far, and I doubt anything would change that. @Nic128 Been wanting Vaati in a 3D Zelda game for a while here, so I'm in agreement.

I think that would make it more likely. Now it can be a thing like the gauntlets, where it enhances an ability where the controls for it are already in place.

Almost time to "borrow" my neighbor's Wii for a week and play a new Zelda game for hours upon hours. Although I think he's still pissed from when I borrowed it to play Donkey Kong Country Returns.

unfortunately/fortunately (depending on how you look at it) Ganondorf will not be in Skyward Sword.

Considering this is a prequel to Ocarina of Time, and in that game Ganondorf had only been around for about 30-50 years residing in the desert, I think we can safely assume that Skyward Sword won't feature him

You can never really be sure when it comes to the Zelda storyline. Nintendo loves to ignore the lore and fuck with the kids who write timelines. If what I've read is true, link is a time traveling multi-dimensional shape shifting elf human hybrid.

I hope we have someone different, but I wouldn't bet all your rupees on it yet.

I don't want to come off as a total franchise whore but the prommise of a new zelda is the reason I ended up owning an N64, Gcube, DS and a Wii (Metroid didn't hurt things neither) Not that the systems didn't come along with a slew of other awesome 3rd party franchises that I would say in all honesty I ended up enjoying just as much if not more than the 1st party treats.

I guess what I'm trying to say is SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I seriously hope they can bend the plot to fit Majora in. Nothing much is known about him/her/it. Maybe he/she/it has something to do with the Master Sword's creation or whatever. That's what Skyward Sword is about, right? The forging of the Master Sword?

All I know is they're going even further back. The Anrgy Video Game Nerd isn't going to like that.
