I think "three" is a weird number of game screenshots to release, but I'm not going to complain. Cryptic Studios' Champions Online sounds and looks, as the kids say, "totally sweet." Like Cryptic's PC-only massively multiplayer online role-playing games City of Heroes and City of Villians, the upcoming MMO for Xbox 360 and PC puts gamers in the role of their very own custom hero. Players will also design their own arch-nemesis, who will play a role in the game's story. Gameplay is said to be more action-oriented than typical MMOs, with buttons mapped for different attack types and the shoulders set aside for defensive actions. Champions Online is slated for release sometime in 2009, but it's likely we'll be hearing and seeing a lot more about it this year.

Superhero games tend to find their way on to my I couldn't care less list.
Needs orca, warlocks, and sweaty manchildren playing it on 58-hour grind sessions.
I agree, it does look sweet
Will I have to pay monthly to pay online? I'm already paying for Live, I don't want any more fees.
monkey, where you getting that from? please lord don't add more monthly fees on top of live. can hero's die?
It's an MMO, so like PSU it will have online fees. Their reason will be, that the costs of running the servers, creating new content, constantly releasing new patches and the like have a price.
I don't mind paying per month for a decent MMO (i'm getting withdrawal symptoms from WoW still, a year on!). Not sure if PSU needs a gold live account to play, so maybe it will follow that system?
I've read a bunch about this in GI a while back and it sounds awesome. It's basically a much improved, more streamlined, better customizable (you can create your arch nemesis), action oriented version of City of Heroes.
Also, I'm glad we're starting to see people actually try to make MMOs for consoles. I really don't see what the hold up is.
PC only?
This is the first MMO to interest me in a while, and there isn't a Mac client?
Darn.
If the fees aren't too bad, I might pick it up on 360.
This was featured in Game Informer awhile back. It looks interesting, but I think I'll pass.
Yeah, I agree with you king3vbo.....it really doesn't look sweet. :(
@Mecha
If it's like Final Fantasy XI, then you don't NEED gold to play it. I have a friend on XBL that plays FFXI, but only has a silver account.
Therefore, it's not a double-charge, really.
Slightly interested. I've never MMOed before
