Yup, Sonic Adventure coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade photo

As if the leaked screenshots hadn't already confirmed it, it does indeed appear that the still-unannounced Xbox LIVE Arcade port of Sega's Sonic Adventure is headed our way.

Destructoid reader Damon sent along word that the XBLA version of the title was recently reviewed in the latest issue of the UK magazine, 360 Gamer. According to the review, the game is a "no frills" port of the main game featured in Sonic Adventure DX, the enhanced GameCube update of the original title.

The reviewer was mostly unimpressed by the port of the game that originally appeared on the Dreamcast back in 1998, saying it "really hasn't aged well."

"It's not all bad," writes reviewer Mark Podd, who gave the game a 5 out of 10, "but if your idea of a decent Sonic game is watching the Blue Spiky One charging across a 2D landscape, you'd be best advised to give this one a miss."

The review's details list a "to be confirmed" price and release for the XBLA title, which has yet to be announced by Sega at the time the magazine hit newsstands.

[Thanks, Damon!]

I really liked this game at the time but it seems to get a lot of bad press since it was the beginning of the end of the "classic" sonic games.

OMG! Another reason to buy a 360! Sonic Adventure 1 is amazing in my opinion, and is proof that sonic can work in 3D

I tried playing Sonic Adventure on DC recently, and I wasn't nearly as good as I remembered it. Actually, it's just not very good at all.

I guess it's to create hype for Sonic 4; but they couldn't have added some extras?
I mean, you could buy a gamecube and DX for less then the arcade version- and it's the better value.

Being me, I hope they keep the Dreamcast asthetic.

Never played the Gamecube version.

I really liked sonic adventure when it came out, but I was only about 12 years old, and I liked pretty much anything back then. Basically I'd rather not revisit the game because I might ruin all my happy memories. One thing that stands out is that the game still looks pretty awesome, considering that the graphics were mind-blowing at the time.

Now I don't have to boot up my DC to play this.

Just all the other Dreamcast games I want to see on XBLA.

IMO, Adventure was a really good game. Especially at the time. I say bring it on. Then Shenmue, please. Thanks.

I was excited until I saw that it's going to be a "'no frills' port of the main game featured in Sonic Adventure DX". It's going to be the port of a bad port. The gamecube port had more bugs and errors than the dreamcast one, which made it quite unenjoyable.

I must be in the minority who didn't really like the Adventure series all that much. Not because it's cool to hate Sonic and any game that's 3D now, but...

The only parts I really enjoyed were Sonic/Shadow, and Tails (in both games)/Gamma. I hated the treasure hunt stages. Amy's "run from Zero" stages weren't really great, and I don't need to say anything about Big. I honestly would've liked if Tails and Knuckles got actual platforming stages to contrast with Sonic's speed setup. You know, as opposed to "play a part of a Sonic stage but go as fast as you can" and "go play in the dirt for a while."

What's sad is that the most fun I've gotten out of SADX was glitching Tails and Knuckles into Sonic's stages. =\

@Doomsday Forte. The thing I really like about Adventure 1 is that is if you don't care to play as those characters, you don't really have to. You can just play as Sonic / Tails if you like since this game has the decency to give you a character select screen.

How's the Chao Garden going to work on this...? If it came to the PS3, they could implement the PSP like they did with the VMU on the Dreamcast and the Game Boy Advance on the GameCube. What's this going to use, the Zune?

A 5 out of 10 is a bit gracious for this game. I thought it was horrible. Sonic only gets one 5th of the game. I don't want one 5th of a good game, I want an entirely good one. Sonic Adventure 2 is at least one 3rd of a good game.

Count me in. Hopefully we get the sequel as well. And as others have pointed out if Dreamcast ports become the new thing for Sega to do I'd love Jet Grind Radio. Maybe even with the little details we missed out on during the importing.

I disagree, actually - I've played through both versions dozens of times each, and the GameCube one has FAR fewer issues than the Dreamcast one. But the Dreamcast glitches rocked, and I missed them.

Eh, I don't have a 360 but I do have the original SA and Dreamcast. I haven't played DX, but if an inferior port of a port is what we're getting, I'll stick with dusting off my dreamcast.

Well, I think there are some people outside of the younger crowd that are going to enjoy this one. If you are willing to accept the fact that the game isn't all that refined, and that its the first game to feature Big the Cat, I think you'll get your money's worth for $10.

And I kinda like the pre-Secret Rings music, if only as a guilty pleasure. After that it went from guilty pleasure, to just bad. Say what you will.
