Yuffie to join the cast of Avenue Q photo

Everyone’s A Little Bit Racist.” “If You Were Gay.” “The Internet Is For Porn.” These are just a few of the amazing songs in Broadway hit Avenue Q. And before you start making fun of me for talking about a musical, you really need to hear me out.

Avenue Q is an award-winning production starring puppets who use profanity and deal with very adult issues. There is an old lady character (who I obviously want to punch in the face) named Mrs. Thistletwat and another character based on washed up actor Gary Coleman ... that is usually played by a woman. Oh, and did I mention the puppets have sex on stage? Yeah, Avenue Q is amazing.

If that description doesn’t get you to line up for tickets, maybe this will: The voice of Yuffie in Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy: Advent Children herself -- Christy Carlson Romano -- will be joining the cast on September 29th. She will be playing the roles of main character Kate Monster and Lucy the Slut.

If you live in the New York area you should go check out the show and support her. If anything, seeing a Broadway theater full of nerds in cosplay would be a once and a lifetime experience. Until David Hayter lands the role of Jean Val Jean in Les Miz. Am I right? Er ... I mean ... uh ... did you guys see the Giants play last night? Man, that was a great game. BOOBIES!

Um I'm fucking love you, Chad! I LOVE Avenue Q! I saw it last year and it was so freaking amazing. <3 I have a "The Internet is for Porn" mousepad. :P

I was so excited to see the original cast play in Tuscon. Kate Monster has one of my favorite voices in the play, too. I'm sure she'll be great, I only wish I were in New York!

This is the only musical I've ever seen, and it was AMAZING.

Yeah, I knew her more as the Disney chick from Even Stevens and the voice of Kim Possible. I had no idea that she played Yuffie.

"The internet is really really great, for porn"

That's my theme song.

And Christy Carlson Romano, yes please.

Unless she's carrying a humongous shuriken, I don't care.

But then, I would like to see Avenue Q sometime...

Awesome! Just saw Avenue Q in July, and it was amazing. The soundtrack CD does not prepare you adequately for the live performance. Christy Carlson Roman... err... YUFFIE will make a great addition to the cast.

Avenue Q is awesome. Easily the best musical I've ever seen. The whole soundtrack is win; especially "Schadenfreude".

I believe there's a GTA IV radio station commercial spoofing Avenue Q. Swinging Puppets I think it was called. Pretty funny too.

And this is why I love the great Chad Concelmo! Videogame news AND musicals? "My cup runneth OVEEEEER!"

Anyway, Chad, did you know that Shrek the musical was opening up in Seattle during PAX?? and that Princeton from the original cast of Avenue Q (John Tartaglia) plays Pinocchio in it? <3

/me shows off his musical-nerdness <3

It seems like every movie ever made has been turned into a musical. But where is the love for vidja games. When are we going to get to see "A Boy and his Blob - The Musical", "Fragalot", or "O, Halo!"?

@SourGr8pes

I think he meant that Christy Carlson Romano was the voice of Yuffie in those two games, not that those were Yuffie's only appearances. At least that's how I read it.

Exactly. :)

@SourGr8pes,
She is indeed in Final Fantasy VII. Just not her voice. ;)

I WAS JUST TALKING ABOUT HER! Thats so weird. My friends and I were talking about putting Shia LeBeouf in a Hardboiled remaked or something and we started talking about Even Stevens and how awesome it was. Which led to ; "What happened to the Sister-girl?"

So now I have my answer! Weird. Also, I've never heard of this show, sounds pretty hilarious.

Thanks Chad! Very interesting, glad it was brought to my attention!

Did She also voice Yuffie in Kingdom Hearts 2? I know a lot of the same voice actors worked on both KH2 and Advent Children, but I don't remember if it's her.

Either way, do want.

It's good to see that I'm not the only one who has fond memories of Christy Carlson Romano from Even Stevens on the Disney Channel. Fun fact: Shia LaBeouf played her brother on the show!

Am I the only one who hates Yuffie as a character? Her materia stealing antics still infuriate me.

Avenue Q is the best musical ever made, right next to Spamalot. "The Internet is For Porn" is truly the anthem of our generation.

*hides his harddrive with 14.2 gigs of musical theatre* This is fun, but Avenue Q is a bit... overly sensational? Seeing it in production was like masturbating to the soundtrack. Great, great cd show, and all around good show, but the characters and vocal parts (in my experience) leave almost no room for the actor to expand or interpret the role.

Like Menzel and Chenoweth in Wicked, each successive perform is just attempting to be the originals.

*gets off his soap box*

I'll admit I'm a total snob for musicals, and that it has nothing to do with the article, which connects a new cast member to the cast, but its just frustrating that this one musical is like... the only show I will ever find on a gamer's Zune. Oh well, it could be worse...
