Any Shenmue fans that haven't played the Yakuza series are cheating themselves. It's similar in a lot of ways.
Screw you guys. I'd pay 201 dollars for Shemue III. All the Shenmue news lately is creating a deep void that only Shenmue HD (which includes all 3 games as one masterpiece) can fill.
If shenmue 3 had a kickstarter I think the results would be pretty good.

I feel bad for Yu Suzuki. The commercial failure was pinned solely on his shoulders, and from what I understand afterward he was bumped down to a kind of executive role where he has less creative influence. This man created some amazing games for their time, and Shenmue was his denounment!
On the other hand I don't know why he didn't follow in the footsteps of some of his former Sega companions like Tetsuya Mizuguchi and Yuji Naka and leave Sega to start his own gaming company. He is wasting his talent!

I'd say forgo a Shenmue III and just make a complete edition. HD Remix the original games and provide a finale all on one disc. That would be worth it.
They would have to release a collection first to build hype and get new folks who never got to play those gems the first time around. I'm still upset I let my PAL version for Dreamcast go years ago. Looks like I gotta start search Amazon and Ebay lol.
I would put a $100 just for some fans I know. Same for pikmin 3. Y'all passionate. Plus I'm curious about this series.

It really must suck wanting to do something for the past decade, especially knowing you have the talent and everything planned out already (the latter part shows he's passionate).

Shenmue was terrible. It was a boring and plodding "game" that for whatever reason is looked back on with rose colored glasses by a vocal minority. Oh look, I can pick up a pan in my house. Wow, I can look at some kittens in a box. Better yet, I can buy little collectables from a vending machine. There was a reason why the whole "I'm looking for sailors." thing was mocked and ridiculed. It stunk!! Yes, the arcade was a cool idea and the graphics for the time were breathtaking, but the gameplay was absolute shit.
I think Shenmue 3 would be successful on the current console generation. Vaguely similar games like Heavy Rain and LA Noire do well.
And an HD Collection of the first 2 titles before launch would be pretty slick.

I would buy a gaming system just for this game. Actually the NA version of Shenmue 2 is the only reason I bought the first Xbox ;)

I respect, but heartily disagree with your opinion broham. While I agree that there is some *real* clunkiness when it comes to controls in Shenmue, I did not find it plodding or boring.
For me, it wasn't some sort of novelty of 'look I can pick up a pan' or 'look a kitten in a box' that made me enjoy the game. It was feeling like you were seeing a real city through Ryu's eyes, as an incredible story unfolded around you. Not everyones cup of tea for sure, but I wouldn't say that everyone who loved it and wants part 3 is looking through rose colored glasses. We just want closure for a story that we really love.

I'd be all over a copy of Shenmue that I could actually play. All 3 of my Dreamcast copies have scratches on the first disc.

Giving him the license sounds like the best thing Sega could do since the release of Sonic Adventure 2 (the last decent Sonic game that I played, haven't tried Generations yet). It's for that reason that I think that Sega won't actually allow them to have the rights, even though Shenmue Town failed miserably.
