Your Life with PlayStation starts this month, not last photo

Don't cancel your newspaper subscription or delete your web browsers just yet! Sony has revealed that "Life with PlayStation," the PlayStation 3 version of the Wii's weather and news channels (all rolled in to one!) is facing a small delay.

Originally set for release at the end of July (hey, that was yesterday!), the service will launch sometime in August and will allow users to view a 3D Earth which can be rotated and zoom in on to access news and weather from around the globe. Finally, the power of a god is in your hands.

Much like Nintendo's weather and news channels for the Wii, I'm not exactly sure I will personally find this useful. Outside of novelty, there are so many other ways to get the same information easier and faster. Would anyone here turn on their PS3 before cracking a paper, or turning on their PC or television?

"Sometime in August". So, it's launching at the end of September?

Well, considering papers are just so reliable and uptodate and that my PC takes an age to boot, it "could" be an alternative. Only time TV gets turned on is for select programs or one of the consoles anyhow...

If it's there, it'll be used for a bit at least... Till Home is released then the social non social cycle can begin again with integrated newsfeeds into in game tv's and papers... even a globe... wow, kinda getting interested in that. Now only if it were a reality. Like cookies. Cookies rule.

I kinda like the wii one- though it is kinda thin- if sony does this nicely (with more resources it could be nice) I will use it- I am of course usually playing games on the ps3, but since I also use it as a media streaming box I can see myself tuning into it when I am not gaming, though I don't think that I will wake up in the morning and tune into "life" while I am drinking my coffee or anything

I'm not sure why they don't integrate at least current temperature info into the main screen like XBMC. Thats actually useful.

Put Google Earth on the Ps3 and integrate it with news, weather, web access.

Then you'll have an app I might use.

The weather feature on the Wii is useless, as is the news feature.

I guess I'll have to see how well it works before I can make a decision. All in all it doesn't sound like it's going to be extremely useful. But then again I'm also not paying for it so...

I hope it will have a better looking Earth than Wii's weather channel. Yuck.

The weather and news channels on the Wii work well enough, but the load time isn't worth it. Especially when my computer seems to always be on, and has much quicker access to much more detailed information. If current weather and news could be turned on in some sort of ticker on the main screen (for either system) it'd make more sense.

I usually turn on my PS3 before I do anything else anyways, I like to catch some early Mortal Kombat 2 online, now on the way I can check the weather.

I won't be using it because I don't care about the weather (it's going to either be too sunny and too hot or rain) and their news sources won't have any news for me. But I am curious if they'll have the weather updated more than 4 times a year or if they're going to copy that "innovation" from Nintendo.

How can you "open a paper"? Can a piece of paper be opened? This sounds so strange.

It might be cool or it might suck, I should be an analyst.

You know what would have been nice? Using the time to make this on a game, or even some sort of worthwhile update to the PS3. You know how often I've used these functions on my Wii? Once. Because nobody wants to get weather or news from their game console.

I didn't really use it on the Wii that much back before I sold it. Really just hopped into it only when I was like bored or whatever and the Wii happened to be on (probably the reason WHY I was bored).

I'll probably use this as a novelty every once in awhile or if the PS3 is already on and I'm curious about weather or news or whatever. I just really hope they put a new XMB icon in; I'm sick of them jamming random shit into the Games area. Qore is not a game. Life With PlayStation is not a game. Give me a new slot.

If they throw in some Doppler 9000 HD live sat feeds I'd be interested. otherwise i can just go to wunderground and get the maps.

probably won't actually use this feature but its interesting....though i'm sure they could have put whoever worked on this to work on something more pressing (news flash not everything the wii does is a good idea...in fact most things aren't)
