I'm not a Tekken player by any stretch, but it's good to know at least one fighting game dev won't charge you up the ass for extra characters.

This certainly makes me want to purchase the game more as opposed to buying Street Fighter X Tekken, pay for DLC and have Super Hyper Street Fighter X Tekken Championship Edition in a few months for a lower price with all the DLC.
Harada-san has already said he dislikes DLC. He personally dislikes it which is why there's none for the Tekken series. There were some asshats on Twitter though, that were asking him for DLC and it made me want to punch them through my TV.
The amount of customization Tekken 6 and TTT2 possess are not going to be topped by any other fighter asides from the Virtua Fighter series.

actually it's been confirmed by harada via twitter that the game will indeed include OVER 50 characters.

since Tekken Tag 2 is 44 characters(T6 + Jinpachi, Unknown, Ogre)
add in combot which is now 45.
we can add other characters from the past games like:
Human Ogre, Devil Kazuya as a Separate Slot, Angel, Forest Law, Kunimitsu, Michelle, Alex, Roger Dad, Tetsujin.
that's 54 characters which is more than enough to satisfy all tekken fans thus making it the best Tekken Dream game ever.
as for costumes i just want True Devil Jin, True Devil Kazuya, Biker Nina from the blood vengeance movie, high school outfit of alisa and xiayou from tekken hybrid.
basically make this the ultimate Tekken game!!!!!!!!!!

I wish I cared about fighting games so I could support this decision. Fighting games are probably the last games that should charge for DLC because all of the compatibility problems it brings. If the DLC is THAT cumbersome to the online experience, maybe they shouldn't focus on it too much like Capcom does. Anyways, this would pretty much solve that problem (except for people who don't have the memory) and they could probably still maybe try and sell single player DLC (expanded arcade mode?)
This pretty much confirms that Harada cares, and is the type who takes good gameplay experiences over easy schemes to make money. Suddenly I'm even more excited for this game now.

To clarify in case some of you missed it, Harada was sharing a story about a conversation he had with Itagaki. It was lighthearted in nature, and there's no real bad blood here. Harada likes to tease.

Namco Bandai does know how to treat their costumers with respect, Dark Souls had no DLC because (and I quote the developers) "It was a complete game" and now we'll have TTT2 that already has more characters than any other 3D fighting game in this generation adding free extra stuff!
That said, I hope they fixed the loading time issues Tekken 6 had, without them the game would be perfection in 3D fighting form.

This makes me regret not being a Tekken fan... Looks like I might have to convert from SF, if only to show that Namco isn't COMPLETELY out of touch with the fans. Unlike a certain COMpany who would sooner put a CAP in their fanbases' asses.

Harada was quick to bring up that they have no intentions of charging for the extra characters. While they're still trying to figure out how to deliver the characters (whether unlockables in the game or available through downloadable options) Harada stressed that the characters will be free, later adding that levels will be free as well. 10" android tablets
