Thanks to the Internet, you're never too far from one guy or gal's creative attempts at proposing to their partner in a completely unique way. Proposing via a videogame isn't totally new -- we've seen marriage proposals in games like Minecraft, Halo 3 and LittleBigPlanet. However, level editors Douglas Hoogland and Rachael van der Meer have made one of the best videogame proposals yet, by creating this brilliant Portal 2 scenario.
One of the first things you'll notice is that this isn't a couple of simple tests, followed by a proposal written on a wall and a cake joke; this is a full-blown set of testing chambers with some smart solutions, including one tricky puzzle that involved five laser-reflection cubes. Of course, it all seems fairly easy when someone else is solving the puzzle for you.
And the best bit? The fact that Doug managed to get GLaDOS herself, Ellen McLain, to record the dialogue for the test chambers! The whole project was done for Gary Hudstone to propose to his girlfriend Stephanie and she did accept his amazing offer of marriage. How could she not? I mean, it's not like he just pushed a ring towards her whilst he wolfed down some steak.
Normally I think videogame proposals are just a lazy, passive way of asking without actually having to ask. But with all the effort this guy put into this, I've gotta give him some credit.
That was unbelievable. Not only was it a clever way to propose, it was also a really well put together level. I damn near got teary eyed towards the end. Now I hate myself even more for proposing at dinner like normal people.
@Typhonic
You're being a colossal douche. And since people have been being colossal douches for thousands of years, I guess that makes you archaic, too.
I don't think it's really fair to try to rank proposals, man. They're either awesome, normal, or lame. This is most assuredly awesome. I'm always impressed by what people are willing to do in the name of love. Phenomenally well done level with original dialogue? Totally awesome.
Yeah, coming into a thread in which people are celebrating a proposal (ie- commitment to marriage) between two people who love each other and actually DO believe in marriage to proclaim your personal views about how marriage sucks, yeah that's a pretty dick thing to do man. It's like going to the funeral of a war vet who died in combat and talking about how much you hate the military. If you feel that way, fine, and there's a time and place to express that view, but this is not that time or place. Seriously, how can you not understand that?
After suggesting Animal Crossing Wii to my friend for quite awhile, he finally took the plunge and loved it...then he used the game to take the plunge and proposed to his girlfriend in the game.

Well I think you mean "SO hetero" because it's a proposal from a man to a woman.
But yes of course, gay people can marry too in some countries.
