When I reviewed The Showdown Effect back in March, I absolutely loved it. Arrowhead are just great at making silly, fun titles. But within my review was a nagging doubt, the worry that it wouldn't be able to maintain the necessary population. I was, lamentably, right. It's bloody hard to get a game these days, but when it happens, it continues to be an absolute blast. Clearly more people just need to jump in.

With that surely in mind, The Showdown Effect is on sale on Steam for next to nothing, and it's also completely free for the entire weekend. I promise I'll forgive you for not playing it before if you correct your mistake this weekend.

Review: The Showdown Effect

As the elderly, yet oddly toned kung-fu monk decapitated my time-traveling, identity-losing hero-with-nothing-to-lose for the fifth time in as many minutes, I couldn't really be blamed for impotently throwing my mouse at the ...more

The Showdown Effect is back with a new trailer

The next game from the studio behind Magicka seemed intriguing knowing who was making it and that there would be movie-cliché humor. If there's anything to get me to play a multiplayer sidescrolling shooter, it's prob...more

Preview: Showdown Effect promises 2D action movie clichés

While at GDC, I had a very early first-look at a game called The Showdown Effect which revolved around playing as an action movie stereotype. What I was shown was more of a very early prototype (almost still even an...more

Review: Gunman Clive 2

I don't think anyone, including the game's creator, expected Gunman Clive to be such a massive hit. As an homage to retro platformers it was a joy to play, and the ridiculously cheap base price made it easy to take the plunge. Gunman Clive 2 delivers pretty much everything you'd want out of a sequel, even if it doesn't push the envelope.more
