Consider this your official reminder to download the first of two add-ons for Alan Wake, "The Signal." For those who bought the game new, a redeemable code was packed in the box, rendering this a free download. Otherwise, it'll cost you $7 -- a fair price, based on what I've played so far.
Remedy does a good job of fleshing out some of the mechanics that weren't fully realized in the on-disc story, and since this new chapter takes place in the dream-like "dark place," there's plenty of opportunities for unexplainable (and cool) stuff to happen.
Also, for those of you who redeemed the code early, you aren't able to download "The Signal" yet. It's not just you. An email with a working code will be sent to the email address tied to your Xbox LIVE gamertag soon.

"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Quality DLC. But then again, I'd expect nothing less from the fine folks at Remedy.
Great game though but I don't see myself running back to it.
That and I have some crappy modded Xbox that can't go online :( I don't even know what mod it has or whatnot.
Thank you for the reminder!
To each his own, I suppose. Frankly, I loved the presentation and unique spin on "thriller/survival horror" type games. Night time in Bright Falls is brilliant atmosphere.
Agreed. Alan Wake is truly a superb title. Very engrossing overall.
So many angry people though who used the code early and have to wait for a second free code from MS.
Count me as one of those. Used it as soon as it was shipped to me after launch, and I have to wait an extra day...had to call MS to find out. :(
Oh well, I can enjoy it tomorrow.
You're not gonna be able to download something in May that isn't released until July, that's just common sense...
Coupled with the fact that I'm pretty damn sure it says not to use it until July/the release date on it.
If a lot of people who bought the game just out of curiosity and wasnt aware that DLC was forthcoming and not then I can hardly call them names for doing that. It could of been made clearer but wasnt.
I made somebodys day this morning when I gave them my spare code. Also, people are getting their codes now so its all good, everyone can download the awesomness that is The Signal.
@ supermonk4ever - I have some ideas, but dont want to share them here as it could result in a lynching.
It was short, but that shit was cool. Can't wait for the next one.
Definitely will be dropping the $7 for the next episode.
it was awesome and was a good length too, I loved how surreal the levels can get
here's hoping the wait is not too long for the next one
also did anyone else catch the fucking awesome Address Unknown Easter egg?
Its one of the few times in ANY medium that a story can get away with a dream like sequence or setting. Did anyone set off the jukebox and be thorougly disturbed?
And you shouldn't be such a rude jackass. The world keeps spinning.
Anyway, when I did use the code, I got to download a video from Remedy about Alan Wake with a message saying that my code would be emailed to me at the time of launch. So yes, they did, in fact, intend users to use the code early. If the code was not meant to work, it wouldn't have an attached video and it should have returned an error, saying the code was invalid. So there :P
And NINFAN1990 (and all the other idiots calling people like me out for redeeming their codes early): the devs openly solicited redeeming the code as providing a sneak preview movie - why would you NOT redeem it, and have a reasonable expectation that MS and Rememdy would have its shit together on content delivery?
Just pony up the £4/$7 for it if you want it that bad, or shut up and wait for your code.
@ Nevi - Leave Remedy alone, they have done their utmost to help people out with this, going as far as sending codes to people personally.
