Seeing more original titles on the 3DS eShop is one way to put me in a good mood. Today, we got the heads up on SteamWorld Dig, a platform game designed by Gothenburg, Sweden-based studio Image & Form. It's set in a post-humanity Wild West that's full of steam-powered robots and, by the looks of it, mutants and presumably other creeps.

For now, all we've got are some screenshots and a mid-2013 release window to go on. While I'm sure this will look great in 3D, as many 2D games on the platform do, the developer says SteamWorld Dig is "Not another 3D effect showcase nor a cheap port; we're making an Actual Game™! :)"

Could be cool! I'm hopeful Image & Form will have some footage for us before too long. Assuming that genre description is accurate, I am so down for this game.

SteamWorld Dig hits PS4, PS Vita in March

I can't say enough good things about SteamWorld Dig, a platformer centered around mining that first launched on the 3DS eShop. It's since come to Steam in high definition, and that expanded version was excellent. Now, Image &...more

SteamWorld Dig coming to PC/Mac in HD next month

There are a number of great 3DS eShop games I've managed to miss this year, with SteamWorld Dig easily topping that list. As much as news of the game coming to Steam (PC and Mac) on December 5, 2013 has me wanting to get the...more

Review: SteamWorld Dig

On paper, SteamWorld Dig sounds like the most mind-numbing slog that you could possibly imagine. The object of the game is to dig, exchange the minerals you unearth for better equipment, then dig some more. And when you think...more

Open world platformer/space shooter A.N.N.E is a retro buffet

Really, why even play clearly deficient retro games? I mean, where are the shmup segments in Metroid? Where are the open world segments in Contra? Where are the line segments in a bisected triangle? A.N.N.E. is one part platformer, one part shmup, one part RPG. And this year at PAX A.N.N.E. has all its systems in play. Maybe we'll all get to play it this year.more

Addiction allegory Spate's soundtrack is available now

Spate made a bit of a stir with its release last month, if not for its attempt to tackle themes more mature than shooting bullets at beefy dudes, then for its dated representation of absinthe as it exists and is understood to...more

Rain World has competitive slugcat multiplayer and bat attacks

Rain World is still the best. And it's coming to Vita (and more). Jonathan Holmes went and chatted with Rain World's developers at PAX. In the background you can see a very early alpha multiplayer sandbox that looks to be in the vein of Samurai Gunn and Towerfall. You get points for eating flies and lizards and killing each other. Did you know lizard only has one "z"? That's weird.more
