Whoa. I first saw this new Star Wars: The Old Republic trailer (available after the break) at Electronic Arts’ insane booth -- really floor -- at Electronic Entertainment Expo. It’s a high-intensity, no-hold-barred CG first-look at what BioWare and LucasArts are bringing to the table with the MMO. It’s impressive, I promise.
Of course, the footage isn’t indicative of the game -- The Old Republic doesn’t look that pretty and the action is nowhere near as fluid. Think of the trailer as a set piece, a bit of story to explain the events you’ll be actively participating in if you choose to pick up the title.
It shows the sacking of Coruscant, the event that signaled the Sith resurgence. You may cry while watching: BioWare and LucasArts are giving Star Wars its swagger back.
For all people think the trailer doesn't really matter it does give some idea of the manner in which Bioware will portray the plot. Given that they say the MMO is storyline driven, probably a good thing.
If you are complaining about the trailer not mattering....Just look at WoW. All three cinematic trailers for the game just set up an intro, they mean nothing to what is going on.
I dont know... its no actual gameplay first off, and the actual game will never have something that over the top in it. Secondly, am I the only person who didn't like how not-real the sword fighting got in the prequel trilogy? In the original trilogy Lucas told the actors to use the lightsabers like they were heavy swords (ep 4), lightweight swords (ep 5), and then katanas (ep 6) and swing and defend in a logical manner.
The prequels (and this) really have none of that, and instead we get The Matrix with force powers.
@Scary Womanizing Pig Mask - Funny you should say that. The BioWare PR line about KOTOR 3 is that "SW: TOR is KOTOR 3 ... and 4 and 5 and 6 and 7 and so on."
Okay, first off I'm not happy that this isn't actual gameplay. Second off, I'm still worried this game will suck, but if not I will for sure pick this up.
Now, on to the beauty of the trailer...

I'm on the fence as well, but an epic trailer is still quite awesome. It's an uphill battle after the damage Galaxies has done to those who got into it, myself included. :\
What is it about MMO's that they have to make technically amazing, awesome choreographed CGI trailers that give little to no indication of how the game actually is? Is it because they need to suck people in that way, as the boring standard mmo gameplay cant do it?
I kid, i kid... clearly a lot of people dont find it boring... anyway, theres no complaining about the trailers. Will be nice when we can actually have games like that, though.
Second, why are so many people all pissy about the lack of gameplay in this video. That's NOT the point of this video! Would you like them to remake this scene using pure gameplay? Would it be more exciting to have all the invading Sith pick a Jedi partner, stand 3 feet in front of that partner, and take turns whacking each other with lightsabers with various colored numbers popping out of each person until one dies?
If some of you are so desperate for gameplay, www.swtor.com has small (VERY small) bits of trooper and bounty hunter gameplay. Personally, I think the trooper class could be kinda cool. I wish the bounty hunters weren't labeled as Sith though. I know bounty hunters are probably pretty evil in general, but it would be cool if you could get jobs from the Republic as well as the Sith.

Given that it's all CGI trickery though, I don't think the actual game will live up to it. :[
