The Bourne movies have always been a lot of fun, but how would you feel about playing a videogame adaptation of them? Will High Moon Studios (creators of Darkwatch) be able to overcome the odds and pull through with a smashing hit, or will The Bourne Conspiracy be plagued by the "licensed game curse" like so many before it?

Only time will tell, but for now, here's a quick trailer. Fans of the Bourne trilogy pay attention, for this teaser is packed full of scenes you'll recognize from The Bourne Identity. That's right, when the game hits retail this summer, you too will be able to escape from the embassy, use a book as a weapon, and even free-fall while riding on top of some guy and manning your gun at the same time.

There's also the option to choose between getting into gunfights or fistfights, depending on whichever it is you prefer. Should you choose the latter option, you'll be able to beat the living sh*t out of your opponents and pull off takedowns that utilize the environment for some over the top kills.

Based on this trailer, do you think that The Bourne Conspiracy will do any sort of justice to the films and novels?

Something's a bit off about the animation and the poly counts (or lighting) of the models, but other than that graphically it looks good.

I'm surprised at myself for not mentioning the graphics. They didn't bother me very much, which is weird considering I have the tendency to be a graphics whore when dissecting game videos.

the game looks cool but I really wish that they had gotten Matt Damon to sign on to use his image and his voice. I think that could have made it better and would have helped it sell a lot more.

What about the innovative violence? I want to be able to beat the crap out of anyone with anything at hand, just like Bourne.

At least I see how Bourne will be able to survive falls from great height, if the end of the trailer is any indication...

Definitely going to have to be a lot different than the movie or books due to the quantity of action. I'm not sure it does justice to them since it's more of a Cat & Mouse type of action rather than what was shown in the vid.

I like that they're not using Matt Damon for the voice of Jason (or are we renaming him for the game?), but did they have to go the typical gruff, deep voiced guy? That's why I kind of liked Matt Damon for the movies, he's not just a bundle of virility but more normal than your usual action movie protagonists.

Throwing a chop block to shatter some guy's knees and then rolling out of it with my pistol drawn sounds like a good time. Trailer: SUCCESS!

A game that rides the plot-air balloon cannot succeed if everybody has already seen the damn plot.

It better be new, or it is going to fail, and fail hard.

When I watch these flicks with my dad, he is completely quiet (which he never is during movies), with a knowledgeable expression on his face. What's worse is that he does it with a smirk (which he never does)....

It scares me senseless.

So, this is based on the books? Or the movies? I've never read the novels, so I don't know how true to them the films are. But if they're basing this on the films, shouldn't they have Matt Damon? Seems kind of like the project should've been scrapped after that was a no go.
Sharpless's Avatar
Sharpless at 01/30/2008 19:05
If it's half as good as the Bourne films, then it should be worth a look. And I don't think the game needs Damon. I don't like it when movies put a permanent face to fictional characters. Robs our imaginations of the fun.

And thus the crux of book to movie translation.....

LotR is a complete and total exception though.....

True, but I can't help but think that our own imaginations would still be a hell of a lot better than Peter Jackson's visualization.

This doesn't look great to be honest. No Matt Daaaaaymon and some ropey visuals combined with Splinter Cell 2003 gameplay and you've got horrific liscensed cash-in whore #656.

Do not want.
