Yet another set of sweet videogame posters photo

If I bought every halfway decent-looking poster I saw on the Internet, my walls would literally be covered with a collage of mismatched art -- it'd look like someone vomited pop culture everywhere. As appealing as such an idea sounds, I need to keep my impulses in check.

Although, this set of minimalistic posters by Justin Russo is oh-my-God-good. He's taken the less-is-more approach with his designs, but it works well on a few levels. Each poster depicts the body of a popular videogame character; to the non-gamer, only Mario will be instantly recognizable. Love it!

Anyone else feeling Russo's work, or am I just overreacting as usual?

If some wonderful company ever decides to do with video games what Criterion does with films, this is the guy you hire to do the covers.

its been done already. and quite better as well.

i dont know why people put words in their "art", it totally ruins it for me.

Meh. They're ok. Kind of sloppy, if you ask me.

Simplicity doesn't have to be repetitive. I've seen better.

I agree with RichardBlaine. They're boring and have proportion issues.

Must be a slow news day to waste time posting such a lame link. Or maybe it's just more of the Destructoid bias for garbage.

They're far too abstract and vapid, they could be of anything. And the quotes are so out of place - especially the god-awful inappropriate Snake quote.

Simply put: these are terrible. Only Mario is recognizable, not just to the non-gamer but to even hardcore gamers.

Man, I really felt these. Once I got who they were supposed to be, everything came together amazingly. Even the games I'm not too familiar with - Creed and Metal Gear, mostly - looked pretty groovy.

Can't really determine what half of them are until you see the quote. I liked the ones I did recognise though. I particularly liked that he used my favourite quote from Bioshock.

I thought they were all pretty recognizable; the only one I had trouble with was Nathan Drake, but I don't have a PS3. Really like the Isaac one, wouldn't mind having that on my wall somewhere.

I don't think these are good at all. They follow the same concept over and over and over and are, generally, just sloppily done. Just another guy trying to cash in on the artsy movement by doing shitty half assed posters that people think are "cool" and "hip" and "trendy" and "foxy"....You know, what the kids say.

So, sorry to sound like an angry guy, but these are a no go for me. Only thing good on them is the sayings.

Not feelin' it.

I Like minimalism, but neither the quotes or the designs are really iconic enough to get who the characters are (barring obvious cases like big daddy or Mario).

I really, really like these but I think as an advertising poster only the Mario version would really work, as those straps are so damn iconic, the rest is a bit too vague or perhaps not imagery as embedded in the consciousness of gamers as much, if there were some tiny text or something giving more of a hint I suppose it would work. The designs are awesome though. The AC2 one is a bit too complex I think. Not really anything identifiable there.

And as an artsy special edition cover? Hell yeah!
