Things I've been needing for awhile: new socks, a haircut, and a brand new SSX game. Electronic Arts has been quiet on the extreme snowboarding front since SSX Blur on the Wii, but there may be another one on the horizon, this one called SSX: Deadly Descent or even SSX: First Descent.
The publisher recently registered domains related to "SSX First Descent" and "SSX Deadly Descent" which were both uncovered by superannuation. Being just domain names, there's not much to go on outside of speculation, hopes, and dreams. Still, for fans of the series who've wanted a "true" new SSX, this may be a good sign.
Rumors have pointed to Burnout developer Criterion handling the next iteration of the series, which would be an interesting turn. My review of Criterion's latest game, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (which hits shelves on November 16), will go live tomorrow morning.

You've been new socks? And a haircut? You actually became a haircut and socks?
That, right there, is pretty awesome.
SSX 3 is still one of my favourite games ever made. Not the "best" and I don't expect people to share my love for the series, but it's in my personal top 10. I don't know how to explain it other than: I love SSX 3 in the same way I love Jet Set Radio.
While I'd rather have EA Vancouver making it, criterion sounds like a good choice.
I just hope they really get the spirit of SSX. The impossible tricks, insane air, and outrageous courses. It's not SSX without the ability to snowboard through a city, over glaciers as they crumble, and what is basically a giant pinball machine.
Ohhh and if it turns out like another SSX Blur I'll cry. Keep it 10 miles away from all WiiMotes, Kinect, and PS Move.
I also know it'd work better with a controller in my hands. :P
I will never understand why people want to apply a realistic control scheme to a game that's trying to be as unrealistic as possible. SSX has you jumping 200 feet in the air, doing 20 backflips, while your board disconnects from your feet and circles around you. You can't simulate that with Kinect or PS Move no matter how hard you try.
There's always an unnecessary Kinect peripheral from the team behind the Game Boat raft!
Seriously though, I remember when I first played SSX, it was December, 10 years ago. Holy Shit. I had a lotta fun with the series since then and I gotta say SSX is my favorite game that has snow.
I really hope they won't spoil the game with motion controls, be it Kinect or Move. We need a real SSX game. People who never heard of SSX need real SSX too, they just don't know it yet.
The idea of motion controls isn't too bad. SSX Blur's biggest problem was that it clearly had a smaller budget than other games in the series (rehashed tracks, no voice acting etc). That said, I would much prefer that they play it safe on a comeback title and use classic controls.
I beg you EA. Please.
^This right here, EA, make it happen please!
FUCK
THIS
UP.
More SSX3. Less World Tour.
