Yep, Serious Sam 3 is still being worked on photo

While 3D Realms may have recently bit the dust, Croteam wants to remind us all that Serious Sam 3 is still happening. In an update on the company's Web site, we're told that the gang is "pretty close in signing the publishing deal."

As for the military game Croteam was working on, "development was halted some time ago by investors and publishers." The developer was "doing a 'work-for-hire' development there, so after the game was put on hold, there was nothing more to do" and the studio "moved back to [its] projects."

Croteam CEO Roman Ribaric goes on to say that "Obviously, the above also means that our next title won't be published by Gamecock, as contrary to last year's published press release by Gamecock."

Here's hoping we hear more about the next Serious Sam around E3 time, which is rapidly approaching. Even if we don't, I'll settle for some more details on any of the team's other projects.

If that's not an intense screenshot, I don't know what is.

@Phantom Spaceman: No kidding. Holy freakin' shit. Is that a render from the game, or an actual screenshot, or what?

Great. Another shooter, starring another one-trick pony character.

Serious Sam 3 to become Serious Sam Forever?

Fuck YEA! Serious Sam 2 was kind of a let down. I hope Serious Sam 3 is as action paced and goofy as Serious Sam 1. Only problem with the series is that it gets kind of repetetive. I hope they can figure a way to solve that.

All I remember from the old games was that it was fun for an hour, it was hard as hell, I felt dizzy after playing it, and the plot was senseless

Ah, this will fill the Duke Nukem and Doom void.

I think I heard that this time, instead of a all-out shooter, Serious Sam 3 is going to be a tactical shooter.
How they're going to pull that one off is beyond me.
They also advertised "water physics"... I think it's only cosmetical.

@Luke Barnard: Serious Sam is Duke's cousin. Or brother. Sam Nukem. Or maybe he's an alternate-universe Duke.

@KaliKot: Yeah, pretty much. Which rocks the house. Vast waves of enemies flying at you from all directions, with different gimmicks (rotating cylindrical rooms, etc.) to keep you guessing.

This game is still, in my mind, the most fidelious spiritual successor to the original DOOM: Shooting away at enemies with impossibly manly weapons of mass destruction, and always running out of health before running out of ammo. The plot was the glue that held the game together, just like in Tony Jaa movies (A string of awesome fight scenes and choreographic sequences loosely held together with some bit of plot right up to the end, where the broken bodies of myriad nameless redshirts litter the ground when Tony goes Super-Sayan-lvl256-Kiiiiiiing Combo on them with elephant-bone tonfas). And that's how these games should be: Unbridled killin' and shoot'nin with ridiculously-over-the-top weaponry and one-liners up the gazoo.

They need to make some kind of Ash-Sam-Duke mega-entity.

I picked up the Serious Sam collection for the Xbox a few years ago just because of the text on the back of the box. It was something along the lines of "We don't know what's going on but...it's serious!".

It was the best 10 bucks I ever spent on a game.

What the fuck? Even Serious Sam feels compelled to go with the grey washed out "realistic" look now? Fucking fail. I'll just stick to Painkiller.

Serious Sam 1 & 2 are amazing, super fun games. I hope this actually goes somewhere. I had no idea it was being done in the first place either.

Also Serious Sam games are way better than Duke Nukem games anyway.

Duke Nukem has semi-nude woman , Serious Sam has exploding disproportionally big heads; the difference is striking .

@dan city
Project Manhatan is better than SS games , but all the other duke games are kinda poor ....

I have to agree with you, the gritty look doesn't suit Sam well at all. I'm still hyped for this game though. I love FPSs with old school sensibilities.

When is this game coming out?
Is it multiplatform?
Is it only for the PC?
What's happening?

After the Duke's demise, this is exactly the kind of news needed. Although, I agrees: saturation levels need to be increased. If I don't have a headache and feel like I'm bleeding from my eyes due to the bright colours, it just won't be the same.
