After a not so long wait (it was only officially revealed a little over a year ago), God of War III for PlayStation 3 is now available in stores.
In short, I liked it a lot. Enough that I plan to go out and buy a person copy today, even after having played through it numerous times. If you want more details, don't miss my review, which was posted last week.
Still not convinced? Maybe you will be after watching the opening minutes of the game in action (including a massive boss battle) as posted on Destructoid Video this morning. They're posted after the jump, and "spoilers" are a given.
Have you picked up God of War III yet? Let us know what you think so far. After you finish it, check back next week for our spoiler-filled discussion with the game's director, Stig Asmussen.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Ah, the perks of working for SCEA...
Gonna go get GoW3 today, as soon as I get out from work.

Since I hadn't heard much about Metro, I figured I'd pop it into the 360 and just check it out for a bit before playing GoW3. Well, four hours later I was still playing Metro and had to put off GoW3 until tonight...
Great game. Weak on shooting but very thick on atmosphere and stealth, which is really what I was hoping for anyway. I honestly might have to hold off on Kratos until I finish it.
that's insane. I might check it out afterall. Does it feel like a good quality game, or more of a budget feel?

The only review I've read so far of Metro 2033 was very glowing (they gave it a 9/10), saying the atmosphere was fantastic but that it was marred by some polishing issues.
Metro 2033, however, looks interesting.. and despite the fact that nobody else seems to like it, Final Fantasy XIII has been extremely entertaining for me.
It's definitely a quality game, but as noted, the shooting itself is not the most polished, especially since the beginning guns have horrible accuracy (which makes sense in the context, but may turn some off). In many respects, it feels very Half Life, or like a more linear Stalker.
I'm a total atmosphere junkie, so games like this are my thing. If you're into those type of games I'd recommend it, or at least a rent (no multiplayer). I'm certainly enjoying it more than Bioshock 2.
Alright. I love atmospheres too. I'll give it a whirl later this week. That's what I love about games like fallout and bioshock 1. Even GoW3 and uncharted 2 have very good playing atmosphere. Sets the mood well.
"Just thought I'd throw out there that I'm the only person in the world who doesn't give a shit about God of War."
I promise, you're not. How do I know, you ask?
"That genre of games is, to me, the most boring possible genre I could imagine playing."
Because I agree.
For me, these games have always been really fun... to watch someone else play.
definitely take them back and get God of War III. It's one of the most anticipated games of the year and has an experience that shouldn't be missed by anyone.
My copy of Final Fantasy XIII is never going to get opened, is it?
I mean, I don't see too many action game fans leaving comments about how shitty RPGs are these days whenever there's a mention of them. Why does God of War inspire so much dislike from non-action gamers? Can't people have respect for other people's preferences? Can't an RPG fan respect my favorite game like I respect theirs?
Why can't we all just get along?
discussion with Asmussen next week? ill try to be there.
That and we bought a 2nd PS3 with FF13 for my GF so we can both play (so cute, lol)
I try not to troll, I just didn't want runtheplacered to feel all alone in the world :)
But you can't honestly believe that ANY post on this site (or any other) is going to be free from the haters. See any post about a space marine shooter, WRPG vs JRPG, Activision, etc. Everybody's got an opinion.
I was the same way 5 years ago except it wasn't hack n slash, it was FPS'
I couldn't stand that most FPS games were just the same boring bullshit done a million fricken times over and over againand I'm guessing you find similar complaint with these games?
Not that I'm trying to convince you otherwise but I'm glad I have God Of War to mix it up in comparison to the overcrowded FPS market.
also it is kind of the best game i've ever played in my entire life.
I totally get it, trust me. I'm the same way with Valve games, especially when they get a lot of undue hate from the PS3-only fanboys.
Still, though, as long as we keep treating each other with respect in spite of our different tastes, it's all good in the end.
