Nicalis, the folks who helped make the most recent versions of Cave Story and VVVVVV a possibility, are collaborating with Circle Edge to put a fighting game out on the 3DS eShop in North America and Europe.

Originally released in Japan last year, Yatagarasu was developed by a very small team: artist Styleos handled the art direction and character design; ex-SNK designer Umezono headed up balance and game design; and Shiza was responsible for the game engine.

Yatagarasu uses a four-button layout with a parry system and has both single- and two-player Versus, in addition to training and replay modes. Look for a playable build of the game next week at PAX Prime in the Indie Megabooth (specifically, booth #883).

Yatagarasu is a three-legged crow that is a messenger of the heavens. Phoenix Wright, Shin Megami Tensei, and others have used it in some form or another.

Also, that big guy literally ripped off Zangief. ... well, they is an ex-SNK designer on the team so I guess that explains it.

I'm a bit disappointed in this. I was hoping for something similar to cavestory but it turned out to be a fighter. I sad face now. Not that I don't like 2D fighters, but I already have P4A, Blazblue and Skull girls to buy and finish playing.

I don't like Nicalis very much due to the lazy ways they treat their games but perhaps they are finally getting better.
This game looks pretty nice.
If it has online play and all then it'll be a great Eshop purchase.
However knowing Nicalis they most likely won't have online play.
I hope they can prove me wrong though.

VVVVVV is...just another dime-a-dozen low-res gimmick platformer. Why put the two in the same sentence?
