Yakuza member calls out SEGA for Yakuza 3 cuts photo

You may have heard that actual yakuza members reviewed Sega's Yakuza 3. How crazy is that?! In the BoingBoing story by Jake Adelstein, one of the yakuza members actually calls out Sega for the cuts to the US version of Yakuza 3.

Yakuza member Shirokawa liked Sega's PS3 game, and his favorite parts were the mahjong side gaming, sexual massage parlors and the hostess clubs. But when Adelstein explained that all of that was cut from the US version, he said:

I feel sorry for the people who bought the American version. SEGA USA sucks.

To be fair, Yakuza 3 was a great game, even with the cuts. And Sega is working hard to put all the good, horny stuff into the upcoming US release of Yakuza 4.

Still, Sega: watch your back.

I passed on Yakuza 3 in the end. Really it's the wacky side stuff they cut is the real reason to even experience the game in the first place. If Yakuza 4 arrives more intact I can see myself grabbing it this time.

Gohastings had used copies of this game for $6.99 on Amazon last week.

I'd say it was worth that.

Perhaps the extra effort in less cuts in Yakuza 4 comes from the fact that you have very powerful and influential players? I mean, I wouldn't want to ignore their feedback ._.

...damn Sega...you might want to be a little careful when you name your games after actual gangs...

nice....when even the yakuza guys say this^^

I mean ofc some of those Japanese-history related would make some problems, but I think this would be a lot of fun...and we would learn some things. mh....hope Sega learns about this.

I couldn't get myself to play the game to the end when i found out that Sega screwed me with no reason at all. I have a hard time supporting that.

She might be pregnant.

I played the demo and had a fun romp but I couldn't pay retail for a gimped version.

Sega should be very scared now that real Yakuza members don't like them. I would like to see a gang war between Sega USA and some pissed off Yakuza gang.

Someone tell these Yakuza that Sega USA also didn't bring us 7th Dragon. I want them to teach Sega USA a lesson they'll never forget, like that they're a -game- company.

@ Mortrialus at least they make good protagonists/antagonists. Try and do that with pedophiles.

The interview was incredibly enlightening. If you're interested in the yakuza, I suggest you read Jake Adelstein's book if you haven't yet.

Wasn't it really SEGA Japan's fault for the cuts?

"the wacky side stuff they cut is the real reason to even experience the game in the first place"

This is literally the dumbest thing that has ever been said about Yakuza 3. I want everyone to read this sentence and understand that he just said that the actual extremely solid storytelling, the extended continuity between the games, attention to detail, great fighting, excellent character work and extremely good music are not the reason to ever play Yakuza 3. No, we should only want to play it because we can play Mahjong and go to hostess bars. Jesus Christ.

You know what? This reminds me of when someone brought up the fucking Gold Saucer as one of the reasons Final Fantasy 7 was "the best FF ever." Like some super terrible minigames were some godsend that made the game better than everything else.

If you aren't going to play the game for the main story/game, you have no reason to be playing the game at all.

I'm not sure you know what "calling out" actually means. But it is disappointing that SEGA cut a part that 1/3 Yakuza members prefer over the rest of the game ;)

i cant believe you fools wont play this game because some things got cut out. i seriously hate how american gamers are so ignorant towards stupid things like this. This was my fav game of 2010 by far. the cut outs really have nothing to do with the game being awesome. Id say go jump of a bridge and get some sense knocked into you and enjoy games for what they are not for what you want it to be.

Yeah I passed on Yakuza 3 as well. Edited games are a nope for me. Might import the Japanese version some day, or if Sega releases an uncut version like the cheap bastards they are.

You people who passed on the North American Yakuza 3 are really missing out. Sega heard you and already said they weren't cutting anything from Yakuza 4, but there's so much game in Yakuza 3 that the edited stuff hardly matters in the end.
Great game is great. Get it.

You know it's bad when the Yakuza have something to say about your cuts. Way to piss off the mob, Sega.
