As always with the Yakuza franchise on the west, we now await for confirmation from SEGA that the game is being localized WITHOUT any content being cut because of "cultural differences".
I'm a long time fan of this series, preordered and bought every single game in the series. And for the most part have enjoyed them.
That said, this series is so goddamn archaic that I find myself caring less and less with every new iteration. But still I've been trucking on, and even looking forward to this next installment...but then something happened.
That something was called Sleeping Dogs. Sleeping Dogs may not be exactly like Yakuza, but it showed me how the type of Game Yakuza is trying to be SHOULD be made. Seamless martial arts action, no stupid RPG encounter like exploration to fight transitions. That means a lot.
I still like Yakuza, but after Sleeping Dogs I just care that much less for the series.
Sega going all out on this one ^^
after this can we have Shenmue HD Collection and the inevitable Shenmue 3 with Yu Suzuki.
put a kickstarter on it, i'll be the first to give out money!!!!!!!
More importantly; I don't want a watered down combat system. Sleeping Dogs has a fluid combat engine, I will give it that; but it is also a brain dead simple combat engine. It is Dynasty Warriors with a counter button. I don't think it is anywhere near as dynamic or interesting as the Yakuza combat style.
So yeah, keep the GTA out of my Yakuza please. If you have grown apart from the series then that is too bad; but apparently the only way to keep you as a fan is to ostracize me. I am not down for that.
Sleeping Dogs is great, I am enjoying it thoroughly. However, the last thing I want is Yakuza: Grand Theft Auto Edition. I like the RPG style of encounter, I like the leveling up system; these are all things that make the Yakuza series desirable in my opinion.
