Yakuza 4 'hard at work' screenshots photo

My favorite part of the Yakuza games is the time spent wasting time. Sure, kicking ass is fun, but wandering around town wasting time is awesome. I think I enjoy it because it's a perfect parallel to my real life. I don't have pachinko parlors and onsen around here, but I do end up wandering and wasting most of my days doing a whole bunch of nothing. You only have one life to live. Why waste it all doing what you're supposed to do?

Sega went nuts with the play time elements of Yakuza 4, the still only-for-Japan PS3 gangster sandbox. You'll see some of the minigames make a comeback, but there's so much more to do now, and all of it looks great. I'm pretty excited. Virtua Fighter 5 pachinko? Yes please. The golf looks fun, too.

I love that you can to to an onsen (hot spring) and play ping pong with hot girls, and then get into the bath and fantasize about them, as seen above. Again, this is such an accurate parallel to my real life.

Poke through the gallery below. There's tons of really great shots. Some pretty funny ones, too.

You are the reason why Sega does not let us have nice things (in a timely fashion). Thanks for representing our close-minded WESTERN GAMES > ALL gamer culture.

I'm still deciding which game in my back catalog to play through next in preparation for sequels next year, Red Dead Revolver or Yakuza 1&2.

I'm already excited for Yakuza 4 already and we haven't even got Yakuza 3 yet.

It's incredible how sega actually makes each yakuza game so much better, what they do with each iteration spits in the face of many, many game sequels, western or not.

Yes, it can be seen as 'fluff', but you cannot blame sega for being lazy with the yakuza series, they have arguably pefected what makes it work and now are simply adding to it tons of extra stuff.

Hell, they even choose one heck of a risky move and put the main focus off of Kazama Kiryu to four other characters, all fully playable and by the looks of the trailers for the game, all as interesting as the dojima dragon.

That's just one of many, many reasons they are getting my money day 1(or the day before thanks to internet retailers)Yakuza 3 is released in the west. Very few other developers/publishers nowadays make each iteration leaps better then the predecessor.

I'm not saying it's bad. I think it's actually pretty interesting. Yakuza games are about realistic portrayals of life and 4 seems to nail that perfectly. It's just a little stereotypical.

This IS coming to America. IGN confirmed it last week with a story from an editor who has played the english language version!!! Check out the movie version, 'Like A Dragon', it was directed by the amazing Takashi Miike (Audition, Ichi The Killer, Sukiyaki Western Django) who also helped write the games! Good times!

I've never played Yakuza, but now I will, since I got meself a pink PS2 recently. Anyone knows the first to game's lennght?
I'm asking because I've still got Kingdom Hearts 2, MGS3, FFX, FFXII and Persona 3 and 4 to complete and I've just started FFX. And I still got a lot of games to complete on my PS3, but I don't have that much time. 'Guess I should quit my job.

lol wait a minute... so you are supposed to be in an onsen, thinking about girls, while repeatedly mashing the circle button?

Is this the first time masturbation has been recreated in a video game?

No, actually. Wait till you guys see Yakuza 3. There's a trophy for holding your nut at a massage parlor in Kabukicho. Or whatever the fake name for Kabukicho is in Yakuza.

It's right smack in the middle. Whorehouse.

The Magliano disk, which has been partly translated, is known to include the names of various Etruscan gods.  So a sign of incantation or honorific names would tend to lead us to believe that the Phaistos disk contains a religious text.
