XSEED says Fragile will retain its Japanese voice track photo

Playing Muramasa: The Demon Blade recently, I've noticed that the lack of English voiceover actually seems to add to the game rather than subtract from it -- the spoken Japanese actually goes well with the atmosphere. Naturally, its less work for a studio, but if it works out well, more power to them.

In a recent chat with XSEED, Siliconera found out that much anticipated Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon will likely keep its Japanese voice track as well. A rep said "All signs from the dev team are that the Japanese voices can be included together with the English voices for Fragile. We should have final confirmation on this later as an English build becomes available for the first time.” Neat!

However, fans hoping to hear the original Japanese voices in Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces may be disappointed to learn they definitely will not be included. XSEED says that this was due to a licensing issue with the Japanese voices for territories outside of Japan. Too bad!

Of course, Fragile could come with Romanian voiceovers and I'd still be happy, because I'm finally going to get to play it. This is easily my most anticipated game of the year. Do you care if an import retains its Japanese voice track or not?

I would never want to watch a foreign movie with english voiceover. And I watch a lot of foreign movies, so I'm a fan of subtitles I guess. But for some reason, I don't really want subtitles in my videogames.

Imported it. It's really good, but I couldn't get too far without knowing what I was being told to do. The atmosphere is incredible and some of the cutscenes seemed heartbreaking... even in orient-speak.

I guess im the only English speaking person who thinks this way but why is there Japanese voice's in a American game? I can't speak Japanese 90% of Americans can't speak Japanese so why can't i hear the characters talk in the only language i understand? Why do gamers have such a affiliation with the Japanese language? Is there language some how better then ours?

@ Zeta Crossfire

Because it's not an American game and is (surprise surprise) a Japanese game. It saves a colossal amount of money to not record other language tracks, and plenty of people don't care for the English voices anyway and on a niche game like this the kind of people playing it are the kind who wouldn't want the English voices.

The only way an English vocal track benefits the work it is attached to is determined by whether or not it meets or exceeds (no pun intended) the quality put into the original work.

See: Cowboy Bebop.

This game could be muted the entire time and I'd still be excited for it. I'm glad when games leave in the original Japanese track; I'll listen to the English track most of the time, but it's nice to have another option if the English dub is awful.

I preffer english voice acting over what they do with Star Ocean(X360). They rip all the anime-style things of the game and replace them with CG

English dubbing has grown and a lot of shows I watch in Japanese have vices that are just as good in English. It pisses me when people use older dubs as excuses why they shouldn't watch new ones.

@Zeta Crossfire

The voice acting isn't better but people think it is because they can't understand anything being said besides what they're reading. It's like when Naruto fans whine that "Believe it!" is annoying and nonsensical compared to "Dattebayo!" because they never understood Dattebayo. It's actually just as annoying for the Japanese.

Placebo effect but with sounds basically.

I wish Mario had japanese voices I hate fucking gaijin Mario NOA gives us, same with all of their games. Unless its Jun Fukuyama, japanese voices are pretty forgettable. Yeah, I agree with the Muramasa thing. The game is cool and the japanese voices fit, but I don't give shit about anyone in that game. I watch anime in japanese that has emotionally affected me, but for games it just doesn't work the same.

Japanese voices are preferred unless they have a competent group of voice actors, which I've yet to hear anybody mention Xseed as having.

I preferred the Japanese voice acting in Blue Dragon and I didn't have any problem relating to the characters (outside of the weak plot and characterization that is).

There are a handful of English VA's I can respect, Michelle Ruff and some others, but even though my Japanese is lacking I prefer to listen in the original language. And I'm glad to see that they're not going to butcher the music... I love the Fragile title track.
