XSEED explains why Korg DS-10 is not in most stores photo

The Korg DS-10 is a fine piece of music creation software. It essentially turns your Nintendo DS into a full-blown synthesizer, totally capable of making great music.

This cartridge is now eternally my travel mate. I can make music on the go, any time I want. This past weekend, I was traveling with friends. After annoying them with my "club music," I used the touch pad (mapped to a low buzzy synth patch) to make fart noises on command. They hate me now!

We told you awhile back that availibity might be limited, as the DS-10 isn't really a game. Siliconera spoke with XSEED's Director of Publishing, Ken Berry, to get further details on its availability.

"Being such a new concept of actually being a musical tool rather than a game on a gaming console has presented difficulties with retail buyers," Berry said. "They are used to catering to gamers and though the buyers all thought KORG DS-10 was a very cool piece of software, they just weren’t sure if their core gaming audience was the right target for it."

When asked what he thought might have helped retail reception, Berry pointed to a lower price point, $29.99, which is in line with other DS releases. Korg DS-10 costs $39.99, which is still much better than the $59.99 they were originally slated to charge.

Finally, Berry says that he hopes that initial sales are strong enough so that chains that originally passed on it would reconsider. I don't know if that will happen, but I do know that the DS-10 is a rare gem for musicians or even the curious.
