As far as I can tell from the screenshots only cut-scenes and conversations use an anime style. Also if Anime styled shit is generic isn't every other visual style that's been done countless times as well?
Also I take it you don't watch alot of anime since quite a few anime tend to look rather different and have varying styles.
@Chris Creo
I know you're trolling and all, but that's a kinda strange (if telling) comparison to make.

And I'd so be getting the game if I had a PSP
@Chris CEo: I so totally agree with you dawg! Nothing is better than generic bald space marines in gritty, brownish scenarios, like the one America made in droves! *end of sarcasm*
You mean the series of Mangas/Visual Novels that always end with everyone dieing in increasingly horrific ways ranging from cannibalism to freakish eldritch abomination eating them waist down and decapitating them shortly afterwards? Where there is no happy ending in all of them because a psychotic spirit of a 10 year old girl trap them in an alternate dimenson of her elementary school and decide to trap and kill schoolkids ranging from elementary to highschool students just because they're alive and have no way to escape at all?
Wow. I think I'll just stick to Ys and Legend of Heroes if that's fine.
Umm.. I'm sorry to break it to you, but.. there are already two visual novel games based on Uzumaki on Wonderswan

Ok start hatin again
wut
I can't argue with you on that, seeing as you're an artist and all
I like anime but I do agree a lot of them do have that art style that Corpse Party has. It can be annoying and they look like weird with huge bug eyes.
There are a lot of other ones that don't have it like: Wicked City, Ninja Scroll (movie), Vampire Hunter D, Berserk, Fist of The North Star, these are just a few.
Well as an anime fan and gamer I can honestly say we need more games that look like anime shows.
That and artsyles in anime completely own most american animated shows.
That and I don't give a damn if you're an artist unless you actually do animation your opinion as an "artist" counts for nothing, plus pics of you're "art" or you're really just a 40 year old virgin who just draws boobs in a notepad.
And ya go for it check out my website and old neckbeard, box-dog.com there's more recent things on fb if u wanna creep on me
You may not like the style, but substance and craftsmanship count for a lot too. Remember that, and your experience and output as an artist are both bound to improve.
"you're really just a 40 year old virgin who just draws boobs in a notepad."
That's funny, you should probably turn that insult around to most anime artists. Plus, how would you know what he draws?
@Jonathan Holmes
Again, that same thing could be turned around to you. You come out everytime something is posted related to Uncharted or Heavy Rain, and as far as I know you are not a professional (story) writer.
Not to say I like the way you lumped all anime together but I do agree Corpse Party and those like it do nothing for my imagination.
El Shaddai was the first unique style I've seen since Suda51's games, Bayonetta (the woman, not the game), and Shadow of the Colossus before that (I don't keep up with anime or Japan much so trolls feel free to expound).
Cowboy Bebop is one of my favorite shows because the art is useful, but it's not the focus of the series. It relies instead on storytelling. If Japanese writers tightened their narratives I wouldn't criticize the visuals. Not to say Westerners are better. We waste just as much effort on shitty stories, if not more.
Anime is a medium, not a singular art style. There are vastly different visual themes and styles within the category of "Anime."
And just because you don't like a particular medium/style doesn't mean it "sucks." If you really want to be a professional artist, learn how to properly criticize art instead of saying something so pointless as "it's crap."
if you look at the definition of art then you can't really say that the manga art style is crap (you draw manga not anime). i am not an awsome artist though i do draw manga and enjoy many forms of art. what makes splotches on a canvas art. you see its the indeviduals experience. for you it holds no value but for it to not be art then it must not hold value to any indevidual. why is reproducing a flower on a canvas art yet gundam wing, dbz, and pokemon are generic or not art.
It's also only a matter of time before people realize that Heavy Rain and L.A. Noire are basically just visual novels. (Which isn't a bad thing of course.)
the fact that you started acting like an asshole without even giving some second thought just shows your to quick to judge things.
and lol Toonami, as much as i like them back then they're pretty much garbage nowadays. and Adult Swim??? im guessing your watching those birdyman shows or whatever crap they were showing.
and yes as other have said, they are tons of different "anime" art from different artist. for example compare Casshern Sins to Bakemonogatari is vastly different not only in atmosphere but style as well.
you're probably one of those douchebags who only knows anime through the likes of Naruto, Bleach, Dragon Ball, and One Piece instead of watching other great and under appreciated titles like Ergo Proxy, Phantom Requiem, Darker Than Black, Ghost in The Shell etc...
as for this, i saw this back in 2010. never really thought they would bring it here. the more ADV and VN games the better :P
lol at least Holmes knows his stuff and actually has contributed much in DTOID and he actually has expanded his boarders in terms of games and other media.
you on the other hand is stuck in one region thinking it is superior than the other.
guess being ignorant must be fun huh?? :P
this game is RPG... or at least it started out as one and you will go around looking for the shoes to walk across the damage inducing floors or look for lanterns to save your progress
keys
power stone
dolls
oil/alcohol
etc
@tirkaro
it didn't change much, but the visuals and the sound has greatly improved which makes the game really F-en scary
I don’t believe I ever said that anime/manga should not be considered art if I did that’s not my true pov, what I want to get at is they keep giving up the same shit visually with a different crazy ass plot.
@prince I don’t doubt that there are some extremely talented people being truly innovative and are being lost in the wake of "main stream anime" or what gets to the states that’s always how art works. Yes this may be hard to believe but there are some animes that I absolutely love love LOVE, ghost in the shell is one of them but that doesn't change that if I mute the TV and forget everything about the characters it will be just another fish in the sea. I believe that’s where you are gettin ur shit confused (thanks for the examples I googled all of them) you are mistaking unique art for unique plot. out of the ones you listed in the "non douchebag anime" 1 looks different than the others (ergo proxy) hell ill give you one of my own SHIN CHAN, that’s a nice change of pace after countless big eye pink hair skinny white sissys even if he is showin me his ass every 5minutes. DID YOU GET THAT THING, I SENTCHA?
@king proper critique? ok go to google image search "anime" top 16 things pop up (im on my phone) 2 of them are clusterfucks of fanart for anime clubs (I was actually in anime club in high school when I wasn’t in detention, ironic?) so that leaves 14 one of them and honestly I cant tell if those 14 are done but 1 artist or 14. as someone who has gone to big boy school for arts ive had multiple professors think "anime" was a dudes last name, ya they are in their 50's but still. that’s my point it’s absolutely fine and I encourage it to honor those before that have inspired you, but to basically outright copy them intentional or not is bullshit. so yes I can say this as art is crap because ive seen it a million times im not 12 anymore and ive grown tired of it. im especially tired of if it if I do watch a good chunk of trigun or cowboy bebop and everything I draw for the next week looks like spike or vash that’s a waste of a week being influenced by shit I try to avoid (and yes the same would happen with the simpsons, ed edd and eddy or whatever)
again original point, as far as this game being visually unique i say where have you been for the last 20 years because it looks like same shit to me. im an asshole im a troll because my opinions are different for yours.
You obviously haven't bothered to find any anime that uses interesting visual style. Try Dead Leaves, Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt, Shin Chan, Tekkonkinkreet, and Redline to name a few.
im sorry if act like an ass at first but still. you definitely need to watch more animes that aren't mainstream or well known.
and yes i actually know of this because of Laura Bailey. she's funny in that show but it has too many episodes and i have tons more i need to finish(Kara no Kyoukai, Canaan, Ghost in the Shell 2nd Gig and tons more)
i suggest you trying Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. do not let the "ART" fool you. the story is deep and it'll make your head explode.
the funny thing is that Corpse Party also has a similar feel in Higurashi. the art might fool you but the story is freaking great and as i said your head will explode O_____O
