i have only played a small bit of both on a pc ps1 emualtor that just doesn't capture the feeling of those games wen played on a console.
I won't be starting it a 6th time.
Xenogears is a great game. Not the best designed of the PSOne Square titles, but its ambitious and the soundtrack by Yasunori Mitsuda is magnificent, right up there with his work on Xenosaga: Episode I and Chrono Trigger.
In short Im hard!
Brave Fencer Musashi, Front Mission 3 (i believe its here already), &...i would say SaGa Frontier 2 has to be next. Square might hit us with a Bushido Blade 1 & 2 lmao! Sweet!!!
I can finally (legally) get Vagrant Story on my PSP.
VS is the only physical PSone game that I still have. In that fancy double thick packaging with the Square demo disk included.
Also, Legend of Man will be mine!
Xenogears was good, but it had enough flaws that I'm comfortable shoving it back to memory and never touching it again. Likewise Legend of Mana.
Vagrant Story was a harsh, brutal game, and I'm a bit of a whore for Ivalice and the political machinations, so there's that. Threads of Fate, to be honest, is just good hack'n'slash fun. Never as diverse as Musashi or anything, but it still provided a few hours of fun.
Obviously you haven't owned a Nintendo handheld in the last 10 years. They have been milking the 90's forever.
Actually I just started Xenogears on my PS3, and so far I really like it. But i'd rather play it on my PSP, so I guess I'll have to buy it again. I never played the other three, but I've heard that Vagrant Story is one of the best games o fits kind. It just sucks that we had to wait so long for these games to be re-released. The PSOne Classics section could be so much better if companies didn't treat their old PS1 games like new games that they need to build up hype for. If you put Final Fantasy VII on the PSN, it will sell millions of copies - no advertisements needed (I know it's been available for a long time now, it's just an example). Publishers like Square Enix have everything to gain and nothing to lose by selling their old games via PSN. Before now, the only option for an American to play Vagrant Story would be to either pirate the game and play it on a computer, or to buy a used copy - and Square Enix would make no money off of either one.
@tuoman
I don't know what to tell you about the forest maze, but the key to inflicting damage on enemies is that the enemy type stats are a red herring. All that really matters is weapon type (blunt/slash/pierce) and elemental affinity (which can be modified with gems and spells). Cast Analyse and set those up right for the enemies you're fighting and you'll get good numbers consistently.
VS I've never actually played, but now that it's readily available, why the hell not?
Now give me SOM3 and both Bushido Blades, and we'll call it even SquareEnix.
