Xenogears is my favorite game. I realize I lost credibility with about half of you by saying that, but it still holds the spot at the top of my list after all these years. It just really speaks to me.
The music in Xenogears is one of the things that speaks to me most. Yasunori Mitsuda's score is hauntingly beautiful. It makes me want to be a better musician and composer. I remember reading somewhere that he passed out from exhaustion trying to make the best musical score for this game. I bought the soundtrack and the arranged CD, Xenogears Creid, as soon as I could. I still listen to them regularly.
There's actually a new soundtrack release coming next year. Game Swag tells us that this Myth: The Xenogears Orchestral Album will contain selections voted on by fans, with composer Mitsuda making the final selections. It will be released on February 23 in Japan for about 3,000 yen (about $35). Square Enix has a new site up with music samples. They're f*cking awesome. If you're in Japan, Square Enix is taking preorders.
Between this CD, Atlus' Catherine and the 3DS launch, February will be a great month to be in Japan!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. HNGNGHGHGHGHGH
kiss my $35 goodbye, bank account!
Xenogears is my favorite game too.
But hell, I'd go for this. I still love the tracks Faraway promise and flight from the original OST!
Now, how to go about preordering...
I've even got the perfect works book.
Actually gonna go see what he's been up to. Wonder if I've missed anything
if only episode 2 and 3 were as close as 1, we could have probably the best JRPG this decade. but KOS-MOS alone is enough :)
still excited to hear all of it ^^ please make a orchestra version of Xenosaga OST too Yasunori Mitsuda :)
i guess this is a way for fans to rejoice now that we have Xenogears in the west(well america for sure)
Mitsuda is underrated when it comes to video game composers. Personally, I think he's way more talented than Uematsu. Don't get me wrong, Uematsu is fantastic, so that's really saying something. Mitsuda's music just conveys so much more emotion than anything else I've listened to. In fact, the Xenogears overworld theme, "Emotions", is quite possibly one of the greatest pieces of music I've ever heard. I've actually went to bed listening to that song, it's so peaceful. Chrono Cross, Chrono Trigger, and a few other games just have such memorable tracks that even today I can hum Glenn's theme to the note.
Yah, Xenogears is my favorite game of all time too.
