Xenogears gets a new orchestral soundtrack release photo

Xenogears is my favorite game. I realize I lost credibility with about half of you by saying that, but it still holds the spot at the top of my list after all these years. It just really speaks to me.

The music in Xenogears is one of the things that speaks to me most. Yasunori Mitsuda's score is hauntingly beautiful. It makes me want to be a better musician and composer. I remember reading somewhere that he passed out from exhaustion trying to make the best musical score for this game. I bought the soundtrack and the arranged CD, Xenogears Creid, as soon as I could. I still listen to them regularly.

There's actually a new soundtrack release coming next year. Game Swag tells us that this Myth: The Xenogears Orchestral Album will contain selections voted on by fans, with composer Mitsuda making the final selections. It will be released on February 23 in Japan for about 3,000 yen (about $35). Square Enix has a new site up with music samples. They're f*cking awesome. If you're in Japan, Square Enix is taking preorders.

Between this CD, Atlus' Catherine and the 3DS launch, February will be a great month to be in Japan!

I don't even have to listen to the samples to know that I'm sold on this soundtrack. Mitsuda is amazing.

Xenogears is my favorite game too.

You don't lose my respect at all. I love this game. Its one of my favorite of all times. And by the way Dale, you're already an awesome composer. Team Gato is my favorite of your works.

I don't get it. Why would dale lose credibility by saying that? Surely, there should be nothing but a sea of heads nodding!!

But hell, I'd go for this. I still love the tracks Faraway promise and flight from the original OST!
Now, how to go about preordering...

Dale, I don't think anyone's surprised that your favorite game of all time is a PS1 RPG.

Bought. And I would also rank Xenogears among my very top games. I'm a sucker for a good mindfuck of a story, especially when it's scored with music as lovely as Xenogears is!

Right there with you North. Been my favorite game ever since I played it. Favorite OST as well. I really like all Mitsuda's work but don't think he'll ever top Xenogears.

Actually gonna go see what he's been up to. Wonder if I've missed anything

This game is my favorite! The music would put me to sleep every night. Shevet and solaris was my favorite music. The game was practically a book. Wonder if they will ever make a sequal or something like this again. Maybe go into the details on the 2nd disk that was quickened a bit. Very darn good music.

Had this game been completed before release, then it might have been one of my favorites, as well.

Oh man, despite the fact that the Xenosaga soundtrack is a mainstay on my phone, I haven't listened to the Xenogears soundtrack in years. I really need to get it. There are such wonderful songs on there. Another masterpiece ensemble from Mitsuda.

as much as i like Xenogears production value, nothing comes close to Xenosaga :)

if only episode 2 and 3 were as close as 1, we could have probably the best JRPG this decade. but KOS-MOS alone is enough :)

still excited to hear all of it ^^ please make a orchestra version of Xenosaga OST too Yasunori Mitsuda :)

i guess this is a way for fans to rejoice now that we have Xenogears in the west(well america for sure)

Yasunori Mitsuda is also responsible for the music in Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, among other games, but his work in Xenogears is unforgettable. I'll always remember the boss fight themes and the final battle music was EPIC.

Lose my respect? You just suddenly became my favourite editor in the entire god damn world.

Mitsuda is underrated when it comes to video game composers. Personally, I think he's way more talented than Uematsu. Don't get me wrong, Uematsu is fantastic, so that's really saying something. Mitsuda's music just conveys so much more emotion than anything else I've listened to. In fact, the Xenogears overworld theme, "Emotions", is quite possibly one of the greatest pieces of music I've ever heard. I've actually went to bed listening to that song, it's so peaceful. Chrono Cross, Chrono Trigger, and a few other games just have such memorable tracks that even today I can hum Glenn's theme to the note.

But it's such at TEASE! When are they going to make another Xenogears game? When are they going to release the original for PSN in the US??

Yah, Xenogears is my favorite game of all time too.

So first they're releasing Xenogears on the NA PSN, now they're making a new orchestral soundtrack? While all this is friggin' awesome, it does make me wonder if perhaps Square has something else in store for the franchise.

Still my favorite game soundtrack. Deepest characterization and story in any game, ever. Gameplay and graphics haven't stood the test of time (obviously - they weren't very good to begin with), but I have yet to play a game with deeper themes. I wonder how it would be now that I've actually read Nietzsche and Freud, who were clearly the writer's two biggest influences. Yeah, yeah, Dune, Star Wars, Neon Genesis Evangelion, yada yada yada. All that stuff is superficial compared to what the story says about the Death of God/the human subconscious/the rise of the Superman.
