Bigger and prettier games come with problems. But ultimately they can be done and regularly are done.
I'm ok with that. The Vita and 3DS graphically are about on par with the Wii anyway (the OLED tops both). I don't care if it's on a small or big screen -- if it's a good game, it's a good game.
I think it's a little sad when you can't see the forest for the trees: yeah, the textures aren't great, but DIDN'T HE NOTICE THE SCOPE!? Just how pretty and vast the scenery is in that game?
I don't care what anyone says: Xenoblade looks good.

You won't expect the big epic JRPGs to look as wonderful as they used to because hardware is only going to get more expensive.
Too bad why? "You have to admit, the graphics would be way better on PS3 or 360"; they would be worse. They would be the dark black television of a game that didn't exist.
I just climbed the top of Digit 2 and looked down on the entire island. So damn breathtaking. Its a shame we can't have more of that this gen. Here's hoping Monolith Soft can pull its punches on the Wii U a bit to make it happen again.
And hey, JRPG developers. The consoles may have turned their backs on you... but Steam hasn't, and I bet its users would love to have some more JRPGs there! :D
My beef is that I wish it came out on a system I actually owned. Selfish, I know, but still...
To be fair, DS games look great in their tiny native resolution.
Xenoblade looks...less than stellar on a 46" LED TV.
...this game looks like "shit"?
You would this I would have noticed after 8 hours of playing it.
I really don't get guys like this Chris "Warcraft" Kluwe person.
How in the Nine Hells did he go through the entire last generation without blinding himself with a heated spoon?
I know technology moves forward, but why does it seem that some people override their own memories with new stuff to the point where what they liked just 5 years ago is now unacceptably horrible?
Anyway, I still gotta buy this game just to punch some kittens
The quality of technical graphics is measured on a gradient, and I don't think many people are saying that a game has to look "FF XIII" good to look good.
...Although I do hate the jaggies in Xenoblade, and they could be pretty easily fixed by just upscaling everything (hell Dolphin can do it or so I hear).
But I'd even go one step further: Xenoblade doesn't look like shit. Sure it has pop-ups, sharp edges and just allround can't stand up to the graphics you would find on 360 or PS3.
However, the art direction and level design completely save it, to the point that I only really noticed the characters not looking quite as good as they could have. (someone at Monolith clearly had their priorities straight, is what I'm saying)
You can't tell me that Satori at night doesn't look gorgeous.
You can't tell me that you didn't gawk the first time you entered the fields of Bionis Leg.
You can't tell me that those massive waterfalls were ugly.
Et cetera, et cetera. I think that "bad graphics = looks like shit" is a really shortsighted stance to take (for the record, I'm not accusing you of that) and Xenoblade provides spectacular proof.
Dolphin already does half the job (screen res), and a lot of community people do the texture part for some games, but it takes them a lot longer because they're doing it from scratch, without the source material.
He is a total asshole, everything he writes is just an elaborate and strung out forum comment. I wouldn't take it too seriously.
I honestly don't give two shits about graphics, I still play all the oldies, even the ones that look like garbage today. Shoot, when they look really bad it leaves a little more to OUR imagination instead of theirs. Which I think is more powerful anyhow.
My imagination is way the hell ahead of HD.
just when I was starting to like you again you had to ruin it by generalizing and pretending you know japanese rpgs........
Let me explain it to you this way
if a 10 man operation like gust can put out 3 ps3 titles.......then mid sized devs will be able to do what they want on consoles
There is a reason why theres been more japanese rpgs this gen made than ever. Its because theres more systems then ever to put them on
Except he brings up an attitude shared by many gamers, echoes arguments had over many years, and is clearly agreed with by many people if the GI comments are to be believed.
His point is one worth discussing, whether you like the man's attitude or not. I think this is a good debate.
However, there is still a core philosophy (especially on consoles) that a game costs $20,000,000 to make, 60 dollars to buy, 30 dollars to buy the DLC, will have a short and arguably neutered single player, and an okay but not great multiplayer. I think things will change in the near future. Honestly, graphics capabilities suffer from diminishing returns already.
To me, graphics are comprised of two things: Technical ability and art direction. For example, the CoD games have never impressed me graphically because while they are technically great, the art direction strives for realism, which has always been rather boring to me. So while Xenoblade Chronicles may lack the technical chops to stand among the likes of CoD and Crysis. I find the graphics as a whole to be much more appealing due to Xenoblade's creative art direction.
To sum it up, implying Xenoblade Chronicles looks bad in any way is just shortsighted in my opinion.
Hes being ripped a new ass hole...........
Lets look at 13, people liked it, far more than complained, its a fact. Over 5 million copies sold. I havent seen over 5 million complaints.......
square enix adapted by making the most rpgs in there history this gen on different systems....
