We just wrapped recording the latest episode of Bit Transmission, and the show had more than a few weird moments. I was particularly shocked by Colette Bennett's genuine joy for the upcoming Wii RPG Xenoblade. Colette loves her PS3 and her HD and her Blu-rays, and she also has a history of feeling genuine pain when forced to squint at the crappy jaggies of yesteryear. For a game like Xenoblade to get her excited, it must be pretty special.

My guess is that the soundtrack, put together by several renowned Japanese game composers, is partially to blame for her giddyness. The fact that the game is about good looking people laser-sword fighting with giant robots while in the midst off colonizing the corpses of two gigantic dead Gods probably doesn't hurt either.

Personally, I'm most excited about the game's battle system, and the Monster Hunter-esque tendency for the game's characters to beat the crap out of huge, funny-looking dinosaur-things with absolutely no remorse. The game is set for release in Japan in June, but currently lacks a release date for other territories. What do you think? Would you pick up Xenoblade if it left Japan?

It's even more likely that she's excited that the game is being written Soraya Saga and Tetsuya Takahashi, two of the best writers in gaming. The music doesn't hurt anything and the whole world concept with quick jumping from location and saving anywhere, fast paced battle system and a day/night cycle just make the whole thing sound even better.

Nothing I've seen of it really excites me. I like real time battles in RPGs, but...this doesn't look to be that fantastic of a solution, from what I can tell.

Also, it looks kind of generic. I may be proven wrong, and the writing might be fantastic, but it looks very generic.

Awkward, stilted JRPG dialogue = best writing in video games.

I'm counting on it coming out here. That world looks gorgeous and the music sounds great.

It looks generic, and I think people are hopefully because the Wii barely has an RPG library, but we'll see.

Anyways it looks interesting. I'm expecting more from The Last Story but I will definitely get this when localized.

Wii games should not have character models that are that ugly. That said, I bet the soundtrack will be pretty good.

It's just so far all we've gotten is hype, hype, and more hype. Then we get this mega generic video of a PS2 era RPG, and we are supposed to be sold on the pedigree.

The Wii has tons of good games (I have a few more than I do on my PS3), but RPGs just aren't its strong point right now.

Hype hype and more hype and then this video? Clearly you're an ignorant troll. Almost from day one all we've been seeing is in-game stuff from this project, and there are plenty of videos out there showing the combat or other aspects, with the main attraction being the fantastic locales which are anything but generic. I fail to see how you think a JRPG whose world is made of the bodies of two dead "Gods" which leads to the creation of interesting vertically developed landscapes and the occasional glimpse of parts of the divine figures in the sky is generic, or how the scale of this looks "PS2 era" to you (hey, expansive cities, tons of foliage, seamless world and battles, as opposed to a recent HD JRPG title). Oh wait, it doesn't, you're just trolling. Keep it up, lol.

Anyway, Holmes, try posting the actual trailer as well instead of just the 15-30 second commercials mashed up in one video giving some room to the trolls to, well, troll, just because commercials show barely a glimpse of the game. It's like when Sterling was posting random screenshots of this game the day one of the most extensive and awe inspiring trailers was launched, lol.

I assumed the game was confirmed for the US, as it was originally titled "Xenoblade" in Japan, and "Monado" over here, wasn't it?

You're freaking me out, Holmes.

@ Comrade Snarky- That's right, Monado is Xenoblade. I just don't count on anything actually ever happening. As Genma Saotome once said "Ever changing world"

@ Magnalon- I agree that the PS2-looking character models are disappointing. In my opinion, a new Wii game published by Nintendo should look no worse than Mario Galaxy 2.

Sadly, the reality is that this game is not going to make enough money to warrant a Galaxy 2-sized budget. Like Sin and Punishment 2 and Fragile, Xenoblade seems to be a labor of love. I bet the most expensive thing about it is the J-pop theme song.

@ RogXue- Have you ever watched TV before? Sometimes they play two, three or even four commercials IN A ROW. It's so terrible, could be the worst thing ever. I guess they do it that way because the commercials pay for the TV shows that people want to watch. Stupid, right?

With a system like that, I'm sure this whole TV thing is never going to make it.

What's that supposed to mean? Nintendo own Monolith Soft, so it's a first party title. Of course it's not like they should fire 50% of Monolith Soft's artists after buying them and get some of their own onboard their projects as that's a recipe for disaster but yeah, there's no "published" vs "developed" distinction here, it's a Nintendo title in every way that matters. It's likely more of a budget issue than anything else though, Monolith Soft has done better character models and textures and stuff in the past (not vistas however, this game's spectacular where it matters the most for such a unique take on the JRPG genre - again lol @ the dude calling it generic). That or the game began life on GameCube.
