Microsoft is surely pleased with the Xbox One's performance at retail this Black Friday. It took more than half the console market share, and got close to doubling PlayStation 4's figures. Guess that's bound to happen when you slash the price of your system by a minimum of $50 and bundle it with an attractive new game.

The statistics come from analyst firm Infoscout, which sampled more than 180,000 receipts from major retailers. According to its findings, Xbox One accounted for 53 percent of the total spend, with PS4 making up 31 percent. Xbox 360, Wii U, and PS3 each represented 9 percent, 6, percent, and 1 percent respectively. No love for Ouya.

Despite Xbox's turn-around, it's still said that PlayStation holds a considerable lead in overall lifetime sales. Still, Xbox One is narrowing the gap, having seen a surge in sales following its $349 promotion. That's a fine trend, because healthy competition is what's best for consumers.
