Xbox Live will be down for maintenance on the 29th, no Avatars yet photo

This coming Monday Xbox Live will be taken offline for maintenance in preparation for the fall update. The downtime will also affect the “My Xbox” section of Microsoft’s official page as well as toss the forums into read only mode. Yes, there will finally be a day on the Internet where people can’t debate if Master Chief could “totally take Kratos.”

Of course I’m kidding - there’s other bulletin boards for that. In his blog today, Major Nelson stressed that this downtime will not reflect any new changes. That means no Avatars, ability to download games, nor a hip new blade system. Those changes will be coming later this fall.

Considering that the reliable service has the possibility of being down for so long, I compiled a quick list of things I will do on the 29th. The first on my list will be to cheat as much as I can on the Fable 2 Pub Games while I can’t get prompted for an update. What will you do?

I dunno about anyone else, but the only thing I'm going to do is demand some reimbursement for the downtime. :3

In the background it looks like there's a slide that'll hurl people straight into this 'coffee set'.

Screw coffee, just give me a big cup of whipped cream.

And also, is there a date on when the avatars will actually get here?

Are we talking hand to hand combat here, or is it more of a " The only rule is; there are no rules " type of thing?

You can already "download" games, you do that with XBLA and Xbox Originals titles. The functionality being added allows you to transfer game data from a disc to your hard drive, you're not downloading anything.

I've been in plenty of coffee shops that give me coffee-type drinks in those exact sorts of cups. The teapot does confuse things, though.

I've noted the date on my calender. I'll either be playing with my Xbox off-line or on the Wii/PS2.
