Great news in Xbox Live land: all current XBL subscribers (8 million and counting says Microsoft) will have the opportunity to download the hit Xbox Live Arcade title, Carcassonne, for free! The only condition is that you must do so between 12:01 a.m. PST on Nov. 15 and 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 16, otherwise it'll cost you the normal fee of 800 Microsoft Points.
As an added bonus, if you've been a subscriber to Xbox Live since 2002, you'll receive 500 free Microsoft Points. So, by paying hundreds of dollars on Microsoft's online service, we're getting what amounts to $6.25 in return? Hell, it's better than nothing.
But the Xbox Live birthday fun continues! Starting December 4, original Xbox games such as Halo, Psychonauts, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fable will be available for download on Xbox 360 for 1200 Microsoft Points each.
If you've been keeping up with the site, you should already know about the new downloadable Xbox games, and how it'd be more cost effective to buy the same games on Goozex, eBay, or from the bargain bin of a local game store. But then again, I guess the whole incentive is that you won't have to leave your couch to switch between games, much like how XBLA works right now.
One day I'll have a Xbox360 to play these games online instead of the cheap free internet versions that are around...
i'd soone have ye ar kung fu, and that game is garbage!
The Xbox game downloads are cool, but I already own all of those games and I've beaten Halo, Psychonauts, and Crimson Skies in the last year. Hopefully Crimson Skies will get a boost in Xbox Live play, it's such a great game! But, you're probably dense to pay for a download of Crimson Skies when it can be had for $3 or less at any EB/GS.
I may buy Psychonauts again just to support Double Fine.
Have you actually migrated your account to a 360? If not, the account is dead and I'm sure you won't be getting the points. If so, I don't see why you wouldn't.
Thanks Microsoft!
assholes.
I didnt sign up to XBL for the anniversary bonuses, so its all gravy. Yeah, I agree that 500 MS points isnt alot, but as you said, its better than nothing. They didnt have to do anything, really.
Also, as you said, its cheaper to buy those d/l games from a store in a bargain bin, but as long as they allow you to play your old Xbox discs as well as offer them for download, I think its a great idea.
Crimson Skies, Fable, and Halo are way better than most of the crap I pay close to 1200 points for on XBLA ;) I will cry shenanigans when they start offering games for download but don't support backwards compatibility for that title off an old disc.
Thanks Microsoft!

SECONDED. couldn't they have let us choose 1 from like a list of maybe 4 or 5 800 point games to get for free? laym.
Yeah, I migrated it along time ago. I hope you're right, I could buy a GH3 song pack with those points :P.
I am a little upset though cause I just mailed my 360 away for repairs on wednesday..
With forza and marvel ultimate alliance free, and now this, might as well throw in a free halo 3 to make me a super go happy camper :D
I have tried and not so much!!!! If its real, please tell me. Or if not me anyone who believed you.
