One Achievement/Trophy for beating a game, two for doing something badass, and one for doing something stupidly obsessive.
Any Achievements "earned" from visiting Microsoft's Game Room are a stain on your profile.
The worst achievements aren't even the ones for playing in the game room. Looking at the full list, there are achievements for buying stuff. If you fill a room with games, you get an achievement. If you buy decorations for it, you get an achievement.
This shows Trophies are what cheevos should be, cheevos are blackmail into buying stuff.
Suppose if you're an xbox user you're used to shit like this by now though.
ok, that would be a good point..... If you had any proof that there is going to be that achievement.
Haters be hating.
Decorations and mascots come with the games you buy, so it's not meant to be an extra purchase.
I may not be rushing out to buy scads of games next week, but as they trickle out new arcade titles to pick from, I'm sure I'll be getting more and more of these.
@Sexual
I disagree. The gamertag score is pretty solid. There are easy whore score games, but by and large, little attention is paid to people who exclusively farm those titles for score.
For instance, I'm aware I could nab an easy 2000 points by playing Avatar and King Kong over the course of a day. I have yet to play either title.
Trophies serve a similar purpose, but ultimately, it's not as well implemented on the PS3. The score valuation system, comparison to friends, and updating is all painfully slow compared to the experience on the 360. It's not wrong or anything, it's just not as good, IMO.
So, yeah, there's easy whoring capabilities, people run out to get easy cheevos in Dash of Destruction or 1 vs 100, but not everyone does and it's not so much an indicator of making people buy this or that, as it is an incentive to keep playing when done well.
I like the visualization of the arcade room as it takes me back to my younger days.
However, I'm not paying for this stuff.
Who ever said Cheevos > Trophies?
Who exactly said that? Cause I can't find anywhere on this article or comments that anybody actually said anything about Xbox Achievements being better than Trophies. They're all equally crappy and meant to sucker in more gamers to spend more money just to satisfy their fake accomplishments.
This shows Trophies are what cheevos should be, cheevos are blackmail into buying stuff.
How exactly are achievements blackmail? It's just extra incentives for achievemnt addicts to buy virtual arcades. Serious business, much?
Killing time so i can get home as my God Of War 3 rental arrived today!!
...they made me finish the Visual and Aural rape that was the Modern Warfare 2 campaign on Veteran, when I otherwise would've traded it in the next day...instead of the 3 days it took me to finish it.
Same goes with finishing Halo 3 on Legendary by myself...but yeah. I see them as an incentive to go outside my gaming comfort zone and try things I normally wouldnt.
Epic fail
We don't know if they are willing to pay yet. I have a feeling this is going to be a resounding failure.
Then again, I also thought nobody would buy avatar crap, and my friends list is filled with people wearing MW2 stuff and playing with their remote control warthogs and digital puppies. Ugh.
LOL, Nice! The arcade looks cool. Probably moreso for us oldbie types.
@TargetRenegade
This thing is nothing like Home. There's no walking around, no buying furniture for your apartment, no crouching in front of people while they dance, no talking to girls only to have them morph into fat men, etc. All you do here is log in and play your games. You know, like an arcade...
If we were talking big money here, I'd totally agree with you, but we're talking like a pound here, two pounds there. It's not exactly a big deal, and doesn't make me "sad" because I might be tempted to buy some of the old games that I used to watch my Dad play as a kid, does it?
Yeah I could play a flash version, or for the price of two packets of crisps and a can of coke I can play it via the medium which I use most. Again, I don't see how that makes me sad.
"Haaaaaaaatttttteeeeerrrsss"
As for Game Room... Eh, I don't know. I like retro stuff as much as the next guy, but I don't know about THIS retro. I'm more of an SNES retro guy, myself. I think everything before that is a bit too hard for me to really get into.
Probably not going for this myself, though - I've only a little nostalgia for 80's games, since I was mostly too young.
I don't know which is more pathetic. That Microsoft implemented a way to get gamers hooked to little bloop sounds and numbers to make them do something they might have stayed away from otherwise, or the fact there's plenty of gamers this works on.
This is just another thing where you hear about this and you're ashamed to tell anyone in the outside world you game because you don't want to be associated with....well, this.
I've said it before, and I stand by it: achievements and trophies are no more meaningless than anything else related to videogames, including the games themselves.
Do games feed you? Clothe you? Suck your cock?
No, all they do is provide you with amusement and happiness, and if people enjoy racking up their gamerscore as a part of that process, then what the fuck is wrong with that? If anything, it sounds like they're having more fun playing their games than some of the haters around here...
Videogames have kept scores since the days of Tetris. There's a reason for that: some people find it fun. Get the fuck over yourselves.
