Xbox LIVE makes a lot of money, one billion since 2006 photo

Xbox LIVE makes money, but how much does it actually generate? According to an Edge report, folks (this includes advertisers) have spent a total of one billion dollars on Gold subscriptions, downloadable stuff, and advertising since 2006.

Big number, right? Well, research firm In-Stat thinks that Microsoft’s service will be able to generate one billion dollars annually by 2013. The firm also believes Nintendo and Sony will be able to generate quite a bit of money, too. According to their Thursday report all three platforms are “positioned to generate hundreds of millions of dollars in annual online game revenue.”

I can’t even fathom what one billion dollars looks like, but I just realized how much money I've spent on Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network. Did I really need that Cuboid theme or horse armor? I bet I’ve put well over a hundred bucks in manufacturer's pockets from downloads that I didn’t mess with or use more than once. How about you guys?

And they still can;t make it reliable. Mind you, I guess they don't need to.

I was just thinking about this last night as I was falling asleep, the total amount of money I spent on DLC and stuff. Probably somewhere in the $150-200 range (excluding the cost of a gold XBL membership).

Also, that picture will never get old.

in 18 months I spend 300$ on DLC for the Wii, PSN, Iphone and XBL. The qore subscribtion and The game Sirens was the worst shit I paid for. I will never renew qore, I dont really care for the exclusive Demos I can get 2 week before every one else. So in general the money I spend was for good games.

They're too hard.

Also, has anyone EVER figured out a way to change the email associate with your gamertag? I'm using an adelphia.net address from 6 years ago still and I'd like to update it.

@Cynical Gamer:

PSN never went down for days during the holiday season. In fact, as far as I know XBL has had a handful of major outages whereas PSN has had none. My PS3 will log me in automatically, whereas my 360 refuses to do so even though I have it set to.

I hope you are not insinuating the RRoD comes from people who don't take care of their hardware.

And lastly, you blame the end user for M$'s shitty policy of deleting accounts after 3 months. Lame.

@aaronf are you that lazy to press a button to log in? PSN doesn't log you automatically if you have more than one account on your PS3. PSN goes down every other few days. Just because you weren't on when it was down doesn't mean PSN doesn't go down.

Yeah and PS3s don't break. Give me a break.

Hmm my account and millions of others haven't been deleted. We must be doing something wrong.

PSN goes down every other few days. It does? Freaking news to me.

Honestly, I expected more with how they advertise the "total success" of XBLA and considering this includes videos, which are supposedly doing very well. I guess it's doing okay, but the money is still in the hard formats for both games and video media it seems. This is what, may be scratching 1% of total sales of this type of media over the 3 years?

Isn't funny how M$ apologists blame the end user when the M$'s software doesn't work as it should (which is almost always). If I set my Xbox to auto-login, the mother-f'er better login automatically. That's M$'s fault, not mine. It's such a simple thing too, and they can't even get that right!

Secondly, I'm on PSN all the time, and it's never down. Considering how little you know about PSN and PS3 in general, it sounds like you don't even own one and therefore have no clue what you are talking about.

Forgot to answer to more ill-informed points:

> Yeah and PS3s don't break. Give me a break.

All electronics have a failure rate. Xbox is over 30% (maybe even higher, PS3 is within the typical failure rate of consumer electronics which is around 2-3%). lrn2math.

> Hmm my account and millions of others haven't been deleted. We must be doing something
> wrong.

You don't even have the first clue about what the complaint is. The complaint is that M$ will delete your account only 3 months after it expires, thereby making you lose everything! That's a very lame policy. Oh, I forgot, it's always the luser's fault.

I've never seen someone so eager to bend over and spread those cheeks wide for Uncle Balmer.

all that money and they still can't treat the silver members better than the way they have.

@ cynical gamer
you really don't have a damn clue what your talking about do you. Try actually using a ps3 and psn before you start running off at the mouth and coming off as a fool.

" The 360 has always auto logged in there is even an option to turn auto log in off.
