Xbox LIVE Indie Platformance: Castle Pain is worth a look photo

Before the still-sorta-recent switch to more reasonable Microsoft Point bundles ($5, $10, etc.) on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace, it was far too easy to build up weird amounts of extra points. Sure, you could buy Avatar gear or an Xbox 360 theme with the leftovers, but wouldn't you rather get a game instead?

One such game you could get is Platformance: Castle Pain. It's essentially a one-dollar kick to the groin; why yes, I do mean that as a compliment. As the name suggests, it is, indeed, a tough platformer -- death is always mere seconds away. There are checkpoints, though, and the pixel art is fairly good.

For the price, you can't exactly complain. Well, you can, but that'd make you something of a jerk in my eyes. Here's the link to queue it up, if you're interested.

Thaaaat's a purchase. I'm glad D-toid highlights the cream of the indie games crop from time to time, because I rarely venture onto the indie games channel.

Platformance totally needs to be a word.

My friend led me onto this and I was immediately hooked. Unforgiving and with this Castlevania-esque massive map to boot. I adore it.

And seconded what Hel105 said. There isn't enough coverage of these tiny little gems of games that pop up in waves and waves of average games. Thanks, Dtoid.

@Jordan Devore

You should give the Xbox LIVE Indie Game LUMI a look.

It's a beautiful game with great gameplay once you get the magnetic like gameplay mechanic down.

It's easily the best game I've downloaded from the Indie games section.

I'd hate to see it go unnoticed.

I bought it, because I had 260 MS Points (what is that, $3.25?) sitting on my account. At your recommendation, Mr. Devore.

This game plays very similarly to The Flood flash game that was mentioned on this site months ago. Still haven't gotten around to beating that either... This game is nicer though in the fact that you can zoom in.

Oh yeah,.. the ability to buy 400 and 800 points was convenient..

..for about 2 weeks until they made 560 points the low end of pricing for nearly all new content.

The platforming controls don't feel quite right for me. I don't feel like it was a dollar poorly spent, but I definitely would have preferred tighter controls.
