Xbox LIVE Indie developers band together against crap photo

"If you thought that the Xbox LIVE Indie Games service was just filled with massage apps, clones, and garbage, think again! We are fighting back against mediocrity and lameness in the best way we know how -- by releasing amazing games!"

That's the declaration of the developers behind the Indie Games Winter Uprising, and they absolutely nailed it with their description of the Indie Games channel. It's unbearably hard to find quality content, and everyone knows it. That said, there are gems to be found -- and this group is trying to raise awareness.

The so-called uprising consists of 14 separate games, all of which are releasing on the service during the first week of December. It's quite cool to see these indies come together; that's definitely become the big trend amongst other designers and the independent scene in general.

Why can't we be friends?

It is a statement that this is what needs to be done in order to get people to learn when indies come out on xbla.

THIS. Tempura of the Dead is fantastic. We need more games like that on XBL Indie games and less stuff like "Avatar Fight 6".

Pretty cool idea. But, they need a better site, unless the page isn't loading right for me. All I see is the logo above and then a wall of text. Needs some graphics for each game or something instead of having to read each paragraph to find out which game it's for.

Nevermind. Openend it in Chrome instead of IE and the page did load right so I actually see the game titles.

The Uprising page is still being constructed. In the next week it will be updated with box art, screenshots, and trailers.

Silver Dollar Games needs to stop releasing indie games forever.

This is a great idea, there is a lot of cool games there. Its obvious that Microsoft isn't going to do marketing for individual games, they lean on ign and contests for that. Good games need more attention. Now just give me xblig for the PC!

This is a fantastic idea. I'm sure there are competent developers on the Indie channel, and I'd love to see what they have to offer, but it's impossible to find anything they make because the "Controller Magic & Massage" "games" are clogging everything up and generally fucking the whole system.

XBIG doesn't get enough credit for good games man. Radiangames definitely puts out some fun and very beautifully crafted titles, and that Cthulhu Saves the World looks like it might be well worth watching. Glad to see some effort being put forward to show off some of the good stuff.

We can't be friends because you eat in my car when I ask you not to, text me at 2 a.m., and hit on my girlfriend. You should know better.

If I had the right tools to talk and show some of these indie titles I would.
Really, though, the best I can tell you is to dig and really discover what's in there. You really won't know what you can find.

SOULCASTER 2!!!!!

Actually looking at a couple of these games, I might pick some up. The Smash Bros clone Chu's Dynasty looks kinda cool and I'd never even heard of Aphelion and it looks kinda like a Phantasy Star+Breath of Fire clone

"Cthulhu Saves The World:The next RPG from the creators of the popular parody RPG, Breath of Death VII: The Beginning, Cthulhu Saves the World features a new 16-bit visual style, a fantastic soundtrack, sophisticated yet streamlined gameplay, and an epic tale of insanity, romance, and redemption. Save the world to destroy it!"

I am SO f*****g buying this.

@ Jhonny: I wish there were more outlets out there. I've been using this guys updates (I think he writes for Gay Gamer and has this as a feature):

He actually reviews them, too. It's cool to get some commentary on them, but as it's only one guy doing it the content is kind of slow.
I wish Destructoid and other sites out there would give the games in the indie marketplace a little more coverage. Some are "lol wut" material while there are some that deserve a much bigger audience.

I'd disagree. I have over 40 amazing indie games and several more I have'nt bought yet. Arcade is full of alot more crap and it'll cost you 1200MP ($15 in human money) to find out.

There really are a lot of great games on there... they just have to be found. I think Microsoft has done an amazing thing just having this service available, here's hoping they keep it running! (Partially because I'm thinking about learning XNA eventually.)

As much as I'd love these guys to get more exposure, I have to admit that part of the fun of XBLIG really is *having* to look. Since there's virtually no hype for these out there, any good game you happen across will more than likely have that wonderful 'found treasure' quality, and there's no telling what will pop up next time you check. :)

Honestly we just need a more organizable marketplace. That way, we shove the bullshit to the back of the line. I'm surprised and disappointed that it didn't happen with the new redesign.
