Xbox Live Artist of the Month: Good Charlotte *Nex stabs himself in the ear* photo

Talk Xbox has a copy of a press release that Microsoft pushed out recently proclaiming Good Charlotte the "Xbox Live Artist of the Month". From the press release:

Fronted by identical twin brothers Benji and Joel Madden, Good Charlotte, which has already released three albums and is gearing up to debut its fourth, has been announced as February’s Xbox Live® Artist of the Month. Formed in 1996, the band, most known for 2002’s triple platinum “The Young and the Hopeless” and 2004’s subsequent million-selling album, “The Chronicle of Life and Death,” also includes friends Billy Martin and Paul Thomas.

Wow.

You have to imagine that the hands of whatever PR drone they cajoled into typing that were immediately seized by Satan as the ultimate instruments of His Wicked Ways. In fact, if you read that passage aloud, recorded it, and played it backwards, you'd hear the voice of Major Nelson telling you to kill your family and eat their bones.

I'll admit that I'm what most would call "an elitist hipster jagoff", but I think we can all agree that whoever is in charge of selecting the "Xbox Live Artist of the Month" is either a 14 year old girl or is tragically trapped within the dark, faux-angsty corridors of a Hot Topic. If only I was in a jovial mood, I could pitch a hilarious sitcom based on that idea; it's Gilligan's Island meets The Crow!

Hit the jump for the full release and more of the rage that's bubbling up inside of me.

Beginning Feb. 1, Xbox Live members can download exclusive Good Charlotte content from Xbox Live Marketplace to their Xbox 360™ console, including free videos from the upcoming album “Good Morning Revival,” which is set to be released March 27. Videos for their single “The River,” which features M. Shadows and Synyster Gates, and for “Keep Your Hands Off My Girl” will be available free on Xbox Live Marketplace, and select Xbox Live Gold members will also have the opportunity to go head-to-head with the band in “Gears of War” during their 90-minute Xbox Live Game with Fame session.

From the opening sounds of Good Charlotte’s fourth album “Good Morning Revival” — which launches with an artful, innovative sound collage that slides into the irresistible “Misery” — it is apparent that the world-famous band, which has sold more than 9 million albums, has revolutionized its sound for 2007. In addition, by the time the optimistic parting shot “March On” rolls around, it is evident that this vibrant, adventurous and unexpected rock album has redefined the group.

The only thing unexpected about this "rock" album is that these fuckasses still have careers. Shouldn't Lemmy have kicked their dicks in the moment one of them started dating Hillary Duff? That's gotta be against the Rock Handbook.

I know that Microsoft has to appeal to all of those kids out there who wouldn't know the MC5 if Wayne Kramer was banging their strung-out mom, but do they have to try to aim for the lowest common denominator?

I tell you what, Microsoft, this one was your one fuck up. You don't get another, ok? From now on, you have to pick bands that I've never even heard of, and they all have to have at least one cello player. That's the only way you're ever gonna get your cred back.

Otherwise, don't bother coming by my place to pick up your copies of Vice. You won't need them anymore.

i remember seeing them as an opening band at The Birch Hill in Old Bridge, NJ years and years ago. i love how they had a song making fun of the rich and famous and then they sold out big time. they were a decent pop-punk band at first, never got into them really. then after their first album they got a taste of money. kinda similar to New Found Glory (who were much better when they were "A New Found Glory"). now i am afraid that Rise Against is also getting too big. i hope theyre not next on the road to selling out. i seriously hate that punk has gone pseudo-mainstream. every time i listen to a new band i have to fear the day theyll be releasing a catchy MTV-played album in 2 years time. as long as A Wilhelm Scream and Strung Out, i will be happy. and i will always have the greats of Bad Religion, Pennywise, The Bouncing Souls, etc. bands that wouldnt sell out if the safety of the world depended on it. its sad that its only a matter of time before all the bands i listen to are dead. there arent enough good new bands to replace ones like Black Flag, Fugazi, and Face to Face.

btw, Nex... you want a cello? Cursive is where its at.

Good Charlotte are one of my favorite bands, you guys. Their music speaks to me on so many levels. Benji and Joel craft songs from the heart; they're true artists with a vision and if you guys can't understand that, then you just don't understand the music. It doesn't help that they're SOOOOOOOOOO CUTE OMGODZORZ!!!!

So M$ picked a group that has some pull with the kiddies. Honestly are you really surprised that they picked a band no gamer would care about? The whole thing is just a gimmick. The band needs to create hype for their new 'amazing' album, and M$ needs something to reach out to a different demographic.

However I do want to see them play Gears against a bunch of rabid players.

I don't want to sound ignorant but Good Charlotte is not music. It may be entertainment for some, but it is definately noise for others.

Let's be honest here. Who owned "Young and the Hopeless"? I did. But seriously, I was young once and immature and stupid as respects to the world.

But now I loath punk music. It all sounds the same--some puberty-struck teen that sings through his nose. Fall Out Boys, New Found Glory, Panic at the Disco...it's all the same crap with a different name. I seriously still confuse All American Rejects with Good Charlotte.

I LOLed at the caption: "Stole his mom's nailpolish..."

Just beautiful

I didn't know I stumbled upon SPIN magazines website. Attacking music is stupid, its like attacking somebody for not liking jell-o, or if they do like jell-o it's not the flavor of jell-o you like. Theres enough jell-o flavors for everybody to love, and just because you hate the lime flavored jell-o doesn't mean you have to make an article about it.

To be quite perfectly honest I can't stand all that teen-angsty style pop-punk/emo/whatever type of music along the lines of Green Day, Blink 182, My Chemical Romance, Good Charlotte, Fallout Boy, blah blah blah blah blaaaahhhhhhhhh! Somebody go get the mop!

Good Charlotte isn't punk or emo. It's just noise. Horrible, horrible noise produced to sell merchandise at Hot Topic.

Also, I enjoy some Panic! At the Disco, but if you think that band is punk, you may have your music definitions terribly mixed up. I wasn't aware punk had cabaret stylings.

oh noes..XBL picks a crappy band as artist of the month. oh noes, the big corporations are rubbing the shoulders of mainstream record companies.

none of them put a gun to your head to listen to them. play your 360 like you did before. i assure you, everything will be fine.

I hate to say it but I kinda have to agree with what everyone's saying. The XBL Artists of the Month in the past have been pretty terrible (Augustana notwithstanding.) I remember at one time it was Jessica Simpson who was the artist of the month? Really? I'm sure if you asked her what an xbox was she'd say something like...honestly, it's even too easy to speculate what she might think an xbox really is.

The XBL Artist stuff has always been a joke, and I've never once given it a minute of my time (Except for Augustana, again), and while I do agree that Good Charlotte are trash in terms of music ability, you can't slight Microsoft or the record company who is putting their record out for trying to get some vested interest from teh gamerz.

i honestly never realized there was an xbox live artist of the month before this. i never pay attention to those ads on the 360 dashboard. in my mind, i pretend that paying for gold membership gives me an ad blocker.

Even though Good Charlotte sucks, it does appeal to the mainstream. I highly doubt Xbox is going to feature anyone good in the near future, because people have awful taste in music.
