Xbox continues to copy the N64: Introduces two new LE 360 controller colors

11:54 PM on 07.14.2008, Hamza CTZ Aziz 32 comments

     Xbox 360

Microsoft will be releasing two new colored controllers for the Xbox 360 on September 30th. These limited edition wireless red and green controllers will come with rechargeable batteries plus the Play & Charge cable for $64.99.

I'm all for new color schemes, but what's so special about red and green? If you're going to have a limited edition color, why have them look like an everyday color? If the controllers were gold, platinum or multi-colored, then sure, I could understand them being limited edition. Otherwise, this should be a permanent type of deal. Well, at least you're saving $5 with this controller as normal wireless controllers cost $50 and Play & Charge cables are $20.

Check out the red colored controller after the jump or check out the gallery for bigger sized pictures. So who's going to be picking these up?

Meh, I agree, I'd rather see a cooler color. I could use some more controllers though, so maybe I'll grab the green one.

Do they represent the green ring of life and the red ring of death?

I kind of wish the red one had a full black back, not just black trim. Cliff Bleszinski was holding one at the presser today, and it had a full red back. It's just a little bit too red for me. I don't know why I care this much.

Why does it look as though the green one is accented in the same way as the red one?

Also, I think I will need to pick me up one of these (along with the blue one they released a while back).

I'll buy one of each. Two of my 4 wireless controllers are beat up anyways and the battery packs are dying.

One could argue that the colour of red would inspire bloodlust in the gamer. My lord, imagine if we could harness the latent rage within every human in relation to gaming. Suppose for a moment we had an army of remote-controlled cyborgs all controlled by gamers with red controllers!!

They tell me I ought to sleep now.

Good night

I dunno about you (well, actually I do since you said so) but I've been openly and eagerly waiting for a green controller. It's my favorite color.

Why do they always get the colors wrong? It's either sickly and dark (the Halo 3 LE controller) or it's gross, bright neon. I just want a current-gen match for my old green Xbox controller, maaaan.

They're pretty... ugly, that is. Not my cups of tea. I might get one for my kid, though, since her favorite color is red.

When i read "Xbox continues to copy the N64" and saw the controller pic i was worried they were going to produce a horrendous 3 handled mess harking back to the n64.

is he instead refering to the new colours? i knew they made games but had no idea they also came up with the concept of varied colour!

nooo of course not i kid,i kid. but really, i guess this headline was made to conjur up a bit of fanboy flaming as we havent seen anything to kick up a storm lately. its not like FF jumped over to MS or anything so we need an excuse to get everyone screaming at eachother

Ew.

None of the controllers Xbox has released (besides the pink one) are nice shades. Did someone at Microsoft spill Kool-Aid on their controller and decide that instead of admitting that they were a dumbass, that it was really the 'prototype' for the new color controller?
